Hi all,

I'm new to the whole RC game.

I bought an already bulit, but unflown World Models Cessna Skylaae just like this one http://www.rcuniverse.com/magazine/a...article_id=591 off ebay. It has a brushless motor (not sure what type, it has no markings) and ESC.

My problem is that the supplied instructions (as well as Greg Covey's review) do not detail how the receiver and batteries plug in together. I don't know if I need a receiver battery as well as the main motor battery (BEC??), and if so, how it should all be connected together. Can someone maybe post a drawing of instuctions on this matter (or direct to a URL that details it). I've had a fair search around, but found nothing that really helps me out.

Any help will be appreciated.

Hey Chris ... I was like you when I started in RC. The WM Cessna 182 is not a floater ok ... she is decently fast when it comes in for landings, not very fast but slightly. What you need is a 3S lipo pack for power (great power but stock motor will have shorter life span). The ESC signal cable goes into the RX throttle channel and that will power your servos. No need to use another RX batt pack. The lipo pack is plugged into the ESC.

Wow, it's that simple is it?
The motor is not actually stock, not sure what it is, as it has no markings, but it has a 30A ESC connected to it.
What size lipo would you suggest? 1500mah? or more?

I would say go for a 2,000 mAh pack as that will allow you to use it in other planes later on and it may help with the CG. Despite using the stock motor my 182 needed a larger pack to obtain the correct CG. Got a pic of your motor? Becareful as you need to know what prop to match the motor with.

In regards to your advice to pug my ESC into my receiever throttle connector and this powering my servos..... Does it matter what working voltage my servos/receiver is rated? I am using 11.1v lipo, but the servos in the plane are rated 3.0V - 7.2V. Will this be ok? or will I cook the servos?

Please advise.

I'm new at this as well.... So according to what tIANci said above, if you are using an ESC... The ESC is plugged into the motor, battery, and throttle on the receiver, correct? So there is no need at all for separate Rx battery? That just doesn't sound right...

Okay ... the ESC will power the servos, it does not matter if you use 3S or 15S the ESC can provide the correct voltage (unless its an OPTO ESC where you will need a separate RX batt). The issue for bigger set ups (4S and above) is that the motor draws so much juice that your servos will not be reliable. For 3S set ups you do not need a UBEC (a device that draws power from your lipo pack for the RX) or separate RX batt. I think the ESC only gives like 4.8V-5V to the servos. This is how many many people are flying EP planes and no one has BBQed their servos.
