Default fuel tank installation problem

Hey Guys,

I just about got this H9 Solo Sport almost done and went to install the tank....well now I think I have a problem. Does the center line of the tank need to be on the center line of the engine? H9 doesn't sell the tank that was designed for this plane anymore so they give you another one where the center line is about 1" below the center line of the engine and doesn't even come close to coming through the firewall at all! I thought I read some thing about this being important, am I right or not?

I've looked for another after market tank but so far the only one that will work is my old Alpha 40 tank which I have to tilt up (45 degrees more or less) at the front to get the stopper and tubes to come through the firewall, the other two tanks I've got don't even come close but do fit nicely. H9 said they couldn't help me and since I've got this plane almost done I can't send it back, they also said no one else has complained.

My tank needs to have the fuel lines set more to the top of the tank then in the center to pass through the firewall, it's a 12 oz rectangle tank but an oval one would work great too. Any help would be great, I'm grounded till then....[:@]

do you have enough room to raise the tank? perhaps on some foam?

For best fuel delivery performance the centerline of the thank should be level with the spray bar or jet (needle valve if you will) not neccessarily the center line of the engine.

It is important to set the tank on a level as indicated by this relationship. It is not neccessary to run the tank brass or alum tubes throught the firewall, instead keep them short and just run the fuel lines throught the old holes or make new holes wherever they need to be.

Tanks that have the whole cap and rubber bung that fits tightly into a large firewall hole are a very poor idea and should not used in such a way. Think about it, we go to all the trouble of packing the tank in foam rubber to prevent foaming then sticking the hard cap directly into a hole in the firewall. Makes the trouble of foam packing the tank completely pointless.

I talked to H9 and they said the tank they gave me should work. I like the idea of just running the hoses through the firewall.
I was looking at one of my other planes, a Global Fokker D-7 and the tank from it is the right design but just a bit to big. I'm calling Global to see just who makes that tank and try and get a smaller one...easy right. LOL
If that doesn't work then I can use the information and make one of my other tanks work then....thanks for the help!
