Default Who really makes Tower's engines?

Does anyone know who really makes the Tower Hobbies engines? I've seen a few, and they seem to run fine, but I don't believe that Tower has a little "shop out back" that is manufacturing these things. Any good educated guesses? I ask because the prices are fairly low, I'm still learning, and I would hate to tear up an expensive engine.

Default tower engine mfr

I believe GMS makes the Tower engines. The designs are just a bit different between Tower & GMS, but both are strong and reliable. Clarence Lee says and I agree they offer great value.

Default Tower/GMS

My educated guess would agree with the previous post. I have a GMS .76 and a Tower .46 They are strikingly similar, and I have had flawless performance from both. I can only assume they are made in the same factory in China, and they just put a purple head on the Tower ones, and throw in a remote needle valve. Either one would be a good choice for a beginner (tower .46 or GMS 47, same engine). But if you want a worry free engine, spend a little more and get an O.S. 46FX. While I have had no problems with my GMS engines, I have heard of a few people who have, but you rarely hear of problems with the OS FX's.

Yes, GMS does make the .46 and larger engines for Tower. Personally, I'd rather buy from GMS and not have to fool with those ridiculous remote needle valves Tower uses.

While a few folks have had trouble with the GMs engines (usually running even after throttle completely closed, due to defective carb or front bearing) RJL, the US importer, has been very good about making corrections, from all I've heard.

And I hate to disagree, but I know of LOTS of problems with the O.S. FX engines, due to defective cylinder liners. There are better brands for less, or equal, $$. Just my opinion, of course. Buy what you like.

Default Tower Engines

I believe GMS makes the Tower engines. As for the differences, for the larger engines, the .61 & .75, Tower's are ABC, while GMS are ringed. pay your money and take your choice.

The other good thing about Tower engines is all parts are shipped postage free. The Tower muffler, which some people claim adds power to OS and Thunder Tiger .46 engines, is $12.99 with no shipping fee. Try to replace a lost OS muffler for that price. Twice, maybe, when oyu count shipping.
