I have an LT-40 with an Saito .62 which I believe is lighter than an O.S. .46 correct me if I'm wrong. I put 3 tanks through my LT-40 this evening. I have balanced to the Sig specs 3.5-4 1/4. Its sits dead center. Trimmed out fine, flies great. It is a taildragger. My question is it seems a bit tail heavy inflight, pitches the nose up to almost a gradual hover when turning. I'm going to have an instructor check it out and see, but any other ideas would be great.

I have the CG set at 4.25 on my LT-40 and at fast speeds it climbs as this airframe is designed to do. At half throttle it has level flight.
If you have your nose pitching up excessively, your engines, down thrust angle may be way off. Or you may not have the plan trimmed properly. Or your running to much pitch on the prop. What prop are you running?
Mine has a Magnum.52 four stroke and it took alot of nose weight to balance it.

That's why they make trim on radio's... even cheap ones. Adjust your trim for a 0 rate of climb at different throttle speeds. Remember that speed = lift.

Just read this thread and you can understand, well perhaps understand is an overstatement.. the argument this sort of thing creates.

You should really just wait until your instructor checks it out. You said it flys great, implying that at about 1/2 throttle, the plane will fly straight and level hands off. You then said it pitches the nose up to almost a gradual hover when turning. This implies that you are either holding elevator to long or not banking the plane sufficiently. This is a very common problem with new flyers. If its balanced per the specs, this plane should fly fabulously.

I`m with you CG, LOL! But IMHO the LT-40 is easier to understand than wind shadows, what ever they are.
As suggested , let your instructor check it out, he`ll know in a short time , whats going on.

Oh yeah, Moondoggie. You are totally correct.

35 years experience beats my 8 or so years all to hell!!! And Ron, our club pro is a Master level Pattern flyer, his son, Dave, is FAI level, I believe he was 7th overall at the Nats this year. All that knowledge is available and easy to tap, so I do so on a regular basis...

Even with the three biggies that I own, including two pattern planes, I often ask Ron to test fly my planes and take his suggestions verbatim.

I bought a Hobbico Super Star RTF trainer a short time ago, to use it as a club trainer. After it was built, I checked the CG myself and it was pretty good, so I put it up. Ron flew it and made a couple of suggestions, which I followed, and it flys much better now. Makes a great and predictable trainer that has paid for itself a couple times over.

Yep, trust the pro's is the best suggestion of all!!
