Default ParkZone Centurion

Picked up Parkzones Centurion minium yesterday. I have to admit I love it.

If you don't expect to much from the plane other than a great time flying it's a winner. Not all is perfect with it, but it does fly well.

The first thing I noticed when I first got it was that the directions were so so. They were in such a hurry to get it out before the end of the summer that things are missing in the instruction book. The two that stick out the most are these.

1. In the trimming instructions it says to refere to the picture twice. Problem is there are no pictures other than one of the remote from a distance. Having flown planes it's not a problem for me, however if someone bought this as a first plane they may be lost.

2. The second thing you'll notice is there a mode 1 - mode 2 switch on the remote. Good luck finding an explanation of what that is for in the instructions. It does not exist. My guess it is probably for more or less control. I'll find out in time.

The plane it's self is very nice. You do get the typical parkzone chatter from the servos some times.

Flying....It flies great. The problem with the remote is range. I would not let the plane get outside 100 feet from you or you may lose it. Also for a 2.4g radio, I was getting allot of interference in it tonight. I was flying in a parking lot at a local high school. All was fine until the sun went down and the street lights came on. There was a couple of times I had to walk closer to the plane because it lost the signal where it was fine flying it there earlier.
Once trimmed out the plane almost flies it self. You can do loops with it if you put it in a dive for speed first. Take offs and landing are done with little effort.

Finally there's the price $150. While not a big deal to me, some may find it steep for what you get. The plane reuires little to no wind. By little I mean less than 5mph and preferably calm. Unless you have access to a gym or other place that allows indoor flying, you'll probably spend more time waiting for the right conditions than flying. The plane weighs less than an ounce so that is to be expected.

But as I said at the beginning. I love the plane. It looks great in the sky and makes for an enjoyable morning or evening flying it. I look for it get more popular with time and with some improvements can be a perfect little gem in anyones hangar.

OK learningtofly, i can answer #2 for you . Mode1 is a format of controls on the transmitter, where throttle and ailerons are onthe right stick, mode 2 has throttle on the left stick. Ihas nothing to do with performance of the controller or aircraft. MOst Americans fly mode 2 , here in AUstralia the popular mode is Mode1
Enjoy your flying

Well it has nothing to do with either. Flew the plane 3 times this evening in both modes. I found that both modes flew the same...absolutely no noticable difference. Perhaps they put that mode switch there for over seas sales, not really sure. I did e-mail parkzone to find out about it. No response yet.

Did find out that the plane will loop nicely at higher throttle. Simply increase the throttle and put it in a dive...nice smooth loops. Hoping my local HS gets the T-28 trojan this month. Been flying the Super Cub and Mini Slinger every week, ready for the next challenge.
