ORIGINAL: Dave trimmer

well at age 17 and my g2 test (g1- can only drive with a g driver next to me, g2- allowed to drive by myself G- full driver) next month I have a 1973 vw station wagon I am working on and it atill needs a lot of work but after I cut the head liner off with a batt operated chemical mask because of all the mouse poo. my dad is selling this car and was brought out of storage after 18 yrs, and in another month or so it should be ready to go! the colour is green with yellow wheells. the one pic with my dad under it is at our storage spot.
Kewl!! I had a '71 VW squareback which replaced a hotrodded (1900cc dual port / Webber carb / Isky cam, ect.) '69 VW beetle I had as a kid. The SB held all my sailing gear way better than the beetle (but I had the baddest, coolest bug in town).

For my "toy" airplanes today I have a '91 Mazda PU with an aluminum shell on the back and a plastic bed liner. Everything slides around on the bedliner so I bought a cheap foam-backed 3x6 kid's play rug and toss it in there. I have some SonicTronic wheelchocks which keeps the trike gear trainer from moving around. To keep my flight box from slamming into the airplane I retain the box with elastic bungee cords.

I have some CL friends with some nice racks they built out of PVC pipe which allows them to stack 4 and 5 airplanes. I'll post a picture later tonight.

Alright here is a quick pic of the stand i still have to glue some felt on the side posts just so it don't rub against the pvc, so far it looks like this stand will work great, but i'm already thinking of a few things i can change on the Ver. 2 model that i might like to have..

i'm into mini cars, so have just purchased a 1978 Austin Mini Clubman Estate just for transporting my airplane.
i have heard you can fit a trainer sized plane into a standard Mini salon, but my other mini hasnt got any rear space due to a mid mounted V8 engine.
I want to see a picture of your V8 mini...

I think a hearse would be a perfect r/c carrier. They have those channels built into the floor for tie-down's. Plus, the little curtains will keep the sun off your planes.

Looks like I'm not the only one that's creative with pvc.

A few things I think I'll incorporate into my designs are.

1. Low profile. I have a fullsize truck with a half-shell (flat toneau cover) so the planes would have to sit under it. Make it so the wing sits (kinda) over the elevator and alongside the fuse.

2. Hang-ability. It'd be nice if I could take the plane, transporter and all, and hang it sideways on a wall. Either that, or make the transporters stack-able. I think if I used velcro or light bungies to hold the plane parts in the transporter. Then I could pick and choose what planes I want to take to the airfield, pull them off the wall, and carry them to my truck.

3. Overlap. I think I'd like the outside of the transporter to be larger than the fuse of the plane. That way no parts hang outside the boundary of the transporter. I could then put them side by side, or whatever, and I'd know the plane parts wouldn't bang into each other. This is a third priority. I might not have space to do this. It might limit how many planes I can put in my truck at one time.

As for field equipment. Field box, and transmitters can ride in the cab.

yea mine had to be pretty small in profile just do to the fact i have a Small car, i had already made a rack to hang on the wall, so this one cost me prolly around 10 dollars. and like you said it had to be wide enough so that planes weren't hanging out the sides.
