Discontinued OS Engines
#1
I just noticed on Tower that all of the OS LA series engines have been discontinued. I haven't even flown with my LA-46 yet. Does anybody know if OS has a new line coming out to replace them?

They still have some in stock in some sizes/finishes with a little searching
.10, .15 & .65 depending on finish.
Couldn't find anything about replacements. I guess sales were slow?? The only reason most companies stop production is if they have major product problems or new replacement versions or slow sales.

Looks like Mr. Stang posted the same as me.

All of the Blue painted engines are discontinued. The natural finish is still available and I doubt going anywhere soon.

The 46LA natural is in limited stock and may be discontinued when supplies run out or maybe not.

Well the magnum .15xl was discontinued from tower about 8 months ago and now it's back as a new and more powerful version, so you never know. I own a 40LA and i think os would be stupid to get rid of that engine, sure it's not a powerhouse but it starts good and was an excellent first glow engine for me.

If they do bring them back , I hope they switch to a twin needle carb. Mine LA .25 runs great as long as it`s not inverted .

My inverted .15 runs as well as any of my other engines which some are inverted. Lowered the tank and no problems at all.

You are misleading a lot of people. Only the Blue engines are discontinued. Just click on "substitutions" and the Tower web site shows the silver finish engines. Cancelling the blue engines is no loss- some marketing type once decided that yuppies would not buy an engine that really looked like a powerplant and came up with dorky blue finish. Good riddance.

If anybody wants one, I have a brand new silver OS 40 LA that I am trying to get rid of. It was on the Hobbico Super Star RTF when I bought it as a club trainer about two months ago. I took it off even before I put the plane together, and put an OS 46 on with a MACS muffler. So, the engine is brand new, no box no instructions, just an engine and muffler (with needle valve of course) that I would like to get rid of.
If interested, just PM me. I will ship for at no cost to you, provided it's in the US of course.
The original retail price for a new OS 40 LA engine is $99.95 and some have sold for as little as $49.99. I will sell it for around 40 bucks (or best reasonable offer) and as I said, I will pay the shipping.

This is the part of "discontinued" that I object to: > I just noticed on Tower that all of the OS LA series engines have been discontinued. < That statement is incorrect and causing much confusion among everyone who also sees that statement in the thread heading. You are correct about other silver engines being dropped, but that does not justify the misinformation this thread is based upon.

Yes, he started out with a broad brush and we (I) have been trying to narrow it down since. That is correct. His initial statement was exagerated indeed.

I just replied back to Dsegal's pm which admonished me for misleading folks. My intent was not to cause alarm, I was just curious about a trend I happened to notice on one website. It does appear that there are some LA series engines which are not listed as "limited quantities", but most are listed as either discontinued or limited. I was just surprised, since these do appear to be very popular engines, and I thought that maybe they were coming out with a new and improved version.
Sorry if I caused a panic, or a sudden drop in OS stock price.
Edit: and as for the comment that this is only the blue engines, and that if you click on "possible substitutions" it just directs you to the natural engines, please look at
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXBY18&P=0
The OS 40LA natural is listed as DISCONTINUED and the "Possible Substitutions" are Thunder Tiger, Super Tiger, and Tower Hobbies engines.
