Default (Large) Petrol Trainer in UK ?

Hi all,

I’ve been flying a electric trainer here in the UK for a bit now (a fly dragon 2), and now I’m looking at getting a large RTF petrol plane, also stable for a learner, and easy to progress on.. By large, a nice 6ft would be great. I would hope to put some camera equipment on the plane when my skills are good enough.

Can anybody recommend such a plane and a UK business that sells’s it and can supply spares (which will be needed).

Thanks,

Pierre

Take a look at [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_4537845/tm.htm]RCKen's list of trainers.[/link]

Most of those should be available in the UK.

Also you said petrol powered - did you mean glow powered as petrol would be gasoline powered and a totally different class of engines.

welcome to glow fuel addiction
I'm not up on availability of glow fuel in the UK but I seem to recall its expensive over there. So if you want to go with a petrol or gasoline and oil motor look for something along the lines of a BTE SUPER FLYING KING. or any # of similar planes. It will cost more to set up but the fuel savings would make it up after a while. Check out this web site it has some cool stuf.

BTEmodels.com

I seriously doubt your camera will have ANY trouble fitting in this one

If your looking for a great trainer in a glow fuel model the LT40 with a good .45 engine is tough to beat. It has around a 70 " wing span. It is my favorite plane.

Hi
I live over in Neath and work in Cardiff.
Do you mind if I ask : Are you a member of a local club yet?

Hi Pierre

I am with the: Amman Valley Radio Control Club.
The best advice I can give you is to look at the B.M.F.A. website and search for a local club.
I know there is a club in Newport and one in Cardiff.
You really need to join a club as you will find a wealth of knowledge and most modelers will be happy to help.
There are a number of good on line shops, Al's hobbies - SMC and many more where you can buy a good trainer.
The Seagull Arising Star with a 46. size 2 stroke glow is the one I started on, I'm not sure "A nice six footer" would be the best place to start.
You may even find a complete setup on eBay as I did.
It may be better to learn to walk before you can run, if you see what I mean.
Hope that helps.

A commonly recommended UK engine supplier is Just Engines http://www.justengines.unseen.org/
Their "Links" page is pretty extensive.

Sussex Model Center http://www.sussex-model-centre.co.uk/ sells planes, radios, engines, etc.
Ripmax http://www.ripmax.com/ is another "full line" vendor.

Thanks for your help all,

I've just been on the B.M.F.A. website, and got the address of two local clubs.

Thanks for all your help,

Rgds,

Pierre
