Default dang spinner

i recently crashed the pts hangar 9 p -51 and had to order a new engine (evolution trainer) so it finally came this weekend and igot it all back together i needed the spinner also so i measured it and it was 2 1/2 inches so i went to tower hobbies and they had no red ones like the one that was on it just black so i ordered it so i could replace the white one that came with the trainer it was a dubro and the only 2 1/2 inch 3 blade i could find so it came today and when i put it on it fit great but the back is recessed more than the one that was on it and it rubs the cowl to the point that it wont hardly turn thought for a second it there was something wrong with the way i installed the engine but its not the case because the ugly white one works fine! by the way i did try to order the original from hobby zone but they were out of stock so any suggestions or am i just out of luck

If you have enough threads left on the crankshaft you can make a plywood washer the size of the drive washer. Install it between the drive washer and spinner.

go to an alum hub, they come in conical shape similar to the plastic one you had and are much handier and indestructable. it will last you lifetime barring nuclear strikes

Yes aluminum spinner.
The ply washer idea was a bad idea and should not be done IMO. There is a degree of danger with something spinning at near 10,000 rpms, the backplate of a spinner should DIRECTLY contact the drive hub of the engine. A ply anything in between can slip and cause a potentially hazardous situation.
The aluminum spinners do not recess like the plastic ones and look nice as well.
Drawback? more costly and along with the spinner you would probably need an adaptor kit for your engine.

I am against putting anything behind the backplate. The drive hub and backplate are both knurled to prevent slipping, If you put anything in between them you eliminate this bond and make it much more likely that your prop will spin (usually right off the airplane while you are trying to start the engine)
PS: Tower Hobbies has aluminum spinners.

Would you PLEASE go buy a keyboard that has a "shift" key and a "period" key so you can capitalize an occasional word here and there and NOT type a 100+ word sentence?

Do that and more people will bother to read it. I didn't waste my time on this one.

I'll appreciate any effort that you can make toward improving your basic English skills and typing methods. It will greatly improve my evening. And it makes reading much QUICKER. Thanks again.

I am not Bruce, but I would not do it. You need the contact to be just the way it was designed. Tower has some spinners that have aluminum backplates, they work very well. An all aluminum spinner is more expensive, but they sure do look nice. They do require an adapter, the ones I have used anyway.

You'll probably have to go to Tru-Turn for a 3 bladed aluminum spinner. [link]www.truturn.com[/link]

Throw away that 3-blade prop and get a great planes spinner - they have a flush backplate

Another thought.
Alot of people eventually ditch the 3 blade prop on the PTS Mustang for the better performance of a 2 blade prop.
Maybe its time for a change.
LOL, Min beat me to it

Yes,toss the 3 blade and put on an APC 11x5 or 11x6.Maybe you can find a plastic spinner for it,a TruTurn will set you back a bunch.

Yikes..... I should remove my plywood washer from my pattern plane with a Saito 150. It only has 25+ gallons of fuel ran thru it I would hate for it to start slipping and fly apart now.

While the aluminum spinners are the best route and the only spinners that I will use on my planes, a three bade aluminum spinner that size would most likly have to be custom cut. Switching to a two blade will still be in the $30 range to get going. A 1" square piece of aircraft ply sanded and drilled to a good fit will cost almost nothing.
