I am new to four cycle engines. I bought this engine "new in the box" and it does seem so.
My questions are:
1) What do I need to do to not ruin it while breaking it in with "modern" fuels that weren't around when this engine was "born"?
2) I plan to mount it in a Sig Four Star 60 I am building from a kit. I plan to mount it upright due to the large number of inverted four stroke pilots I see at the field on their knees cussing and a fussing over their engines having trouble being inverted !
3) What fuel and plug do you reccomend?
4) What size of prop for sport flying and break-in?
My emial address is
[email protected] if you care to email me direct, I have a habit of not being able to find my way back to my postings on RC Universe...Is it old age or am I just dumb??
Philip in Austin still looking for a Kaos 60 by Great Planes.....

It has slightly less power than the newer 91FS engines so I would start with a 13X6 or 13X7 sport prop.
Run it rich and it will last you many years.
Yes the OS type F glow plug and any fuel with 15% nitro and at least 18% oil.

Like Missleman said. That's the old timer "90" engine with the rear cam.
Don't go larger than the 14-6.
The engine is not known to turn a lot of rpm. So if you use a small propeller, the engine doesn't run faster, the plane just flies slower.
Your Four Star 60 will fly fine with this engine.

Yes, it's a great engine. I had a few that ran great on 15% Cool Power. As mentioned, use an OS "F" Plug.
As Flying Freak noted, the pushrods in the rear get good protection in case of a crash. But the bad news is, this slants the glow plug forward and very near the prop.
Be VERY careful when removing the glow igniter! In fact, you might really want to consider a DuBro Remote Glow Igniter pictured here:

Thanks to everyone for all their advice. I am looking forward to using this engine for a change from two cycle OS engines.

Hello; I have that engine in my 4 star 60, I use a MAS 14 x 6 and use little alligator clips for the gloew driver, great combination.
I tried a Saito 80 but I had to add weight to it to balance, the FS90 balanced it off perfectly. Now I have had to do a few repairs and have added some weight to the front to balance my repairs.

I paid $160 USD for the engine. S&H included. No tax. I hope it works out as planned!

It did to me. I didn't realize at the time how old it was and this turned out to be an advantage to me since I want to do the early pattern flying.
