While teaching my son to fly on my Extra Easy a week ago he recovered from a dive with way too much elevator and the wing slid back. The now nose heavy plane began to stall and pull up over and over until it went down far downwind. We looked for many hours with no luck. A week later I received a phone call and someone had found the plane in some dense woods. The plane is a little banged up but fixable. Putting your name and contact info in the plane actually works not to mention nice people going out of their way to help. Oh yea, use lots of rubber bands when giving the controls to the new kid.

Wait till he gets behind the wheel of your car!!! As far as the info in the plane, the AMA sells a "AMA ID Label" which is $1.25 for 10 that has a fuel proof adhesive back (webstore/patchs and decals). It is a requirement of the AMA safety code that you have some type of ID with you name/address and phone number affixed to the plane and your AMA number on the plane, generally it is on the upper side of the right wing. That is per the AMA safety code, general section, paragraph 5. SIG used to put one in every kit box, haven't brought one of their kits in quite some time so don't know that is still true (wasn't sticky back though). In any case I'm glad to hear you got the plane back so you can experience the 10 minutes of pleasure and 1 minute of panic again. By the way you need at least 8 rubber bands holding the wing, two on each side and four crossed over (2 each way).

I have a new Sig Kadet Senorita. Sig does still have those non-adhesive back I.D. cards.

Ok on the ID cards in the SIG kits. There may be other kit makers that furnish it but I'm just familiar with SIG. Before you use it, go make a few copies of it so you don't have to buy any more. I would epoxy it on the inside the fuse by the receiver or servos. If you want to fuel proof it you can thin some epoxy cover the ID card or get some clear dope. I think a lot of people don't realize that the ID in the plane is part of the safety code and may be just cause to deny an insurance claim.
