Hi.
I purchased a DU-BRO brand fueling valve to install on my Hangar 9 Xtra Easy for easier refueling. Do these inhibit or adveresly affect the way an engine runs? Is it good, bad, or indifferent practice to use these?
Thanks in advance.

I don't know what the rest of the people think...
...but I've never had good luck with them.
Mine leaked. Sucked air. Not good.
Asked some of the regulars and they've all abandoned them.
Doing something wrong? .....maybe.
But fuel dots and manual fueling is a positive thing.
...One less thing to fail, yes?

With a mostly exposed either upright or side mounted engine refueler valves are nothing but a pain, in fact when access is easy do not even use a third fuel dot line, stay with a two line system.
Only with an inverted or fully cowled engine would I ever even consider one. Come to think of it with a full cowled inverted engine I just run a simple loop of both the feed and muffler line out and right back into the cowl and short piece of tube inserted in a break in both lines to fuel.
Did I mention refuelers are trouble and a pain!

I just got a YS 4stroke and planned to use a fuel dot and the LHS run only YS in his planes and told me not to do it with a YS because the higher pressure in the tank can pop it out and one of my friends showed me a neat affective way to set it up like JohnBuckner is talking about, He put 4 holes about 2 inches apart just big enough for the fuel lines and put rubber gromits like you would see on sheet metal for wires to go through then put a filter on one and the Valve that you need for YS engines on the other, Looks neat and works well.

"Add a third line to your tank and connect it to one of these:
You pull out the dot, and the line comes out with it. Remove the Dot from the line and fuel/defuel. put the dot (plug) back in the line, and place it back in it's hole."
MinnFlyer,
Could you explain further on the setup of fuel dots. Your pic show's (2) fuel dots. You have mentioned adding a third line.
1 line to the carb
1 line to the muffler
1 line to the fuel dot
Not sure what is attached to the second fuel dot in your picture.
Thanks
Roger

Yes, but this would only be necessary if you cannot get at the muffler to disconnect the vent line on a glow engine. On a gas engine, the vent line goes out the bottom and is not connected to the muffler. (and if it is, I strongly suggest you disconnect it lest your plane go boom!)

i don't know about anyone else, but i just love minn's pictures heh. i can read 3 or 4 perfectly accurate descriptions of something and still not have the foggiest idea and then i see one of minn's pictures and it all makes sense.
something about a picture being worth a 1,000 words . . . .

I've had to return or scrap all my Dubro and GP fuel fillers. They are just not reliable, leaks fuel out and sucks air in after some time. Too much hasle with maintenance too. Now I use fuel dots and three lines from the tank. Works great flight after flight after flight.............

Well...
I've never had anything but good results with the Du-Bro fill valves. Have three. Never tried the GP knock-off so I can't comment on them.
But I've never had one of the Sullivan plastic fuel valves work for me.
Bill.
