Default inverted OS 46 AX engine

does anybody know how well the OS 46AX engine runs if it's mounted inverted?

have you ever used one inverted and how did it run?

I ran an inverted OS 46 AX all last year without any problems. It ran fine with the standard glow plug. I did add a step to my startup procedure to always flip the prop once after priming the engine and after energizing the glow plug before using the electric starter. Straight upside down with the stock muffler.

Should work just as well inverted as upright- tip; use an idle bar glow plug.

I ran one in a Flip 3D and had no problems. If you use an electric starter, then there's really no need to prime it. Just make sure the center of your tank is even with the center of the carb, and it should run just as well as it does on its side or upright. I've never had to run an idlebar plug in my AX or my FX. Just my 4 strokes.

If you lower the fuel tank, it'll be fine, if not, it will be the root cause of all your problems but what do I know as most of my fleet is inverted.

Someone whom I regard very knowledgeable, mentioned when looking at an inverted engine, that it might be a good idea to have such engines mounted a few degrees off so that excess fuel does not pool at the lowest point and flood the glow plug . As alternative start them with the plane upside down. In how far this is valid I do not know, but it seems to be logical.

I too have ran it inverted with no problem. Just make SURE your fuel tank is either level with or below the carb level

When using an electric starter, you should always prime the engine first, just as when not using an electric starter. Grinding it over for a few seconds with the electric starter until the fuel gets to the cylinder is not healthy for a model engine that depends on the fuel as a lubricant.
