Hi all,
I just wanted to say thanks to the folks that were trying to help me figure out what kind of plane I had. I aquired a plane on a trade for some work with this guy and after the fact realized I had no idea what I even got. Finally got ahold of the guy! For those interested, I got a Sig Cavalier with an O.S. .46. I will be learning to fly with this since I have never flown before. I will be hooking up with some locals {hopefully} to learn since I don't have the nerve to get it up alone. had it out in the street pulling it off the ground but setting it right back down! hopefully will get out soon, I'm dying to see it in the air. The Sig Kavalier is more of a 2nd plane. A great 2nd plane in fact. You may be able to learn on it if you have a really good instructor. I think it can be done. It will be quite a bit faster than a typical high wing trainer and also lack most of the self correcting tendencies. It's a really nice plane though. I've owned several.

You can learn on the Kavalier. It is meant to be a second plane or general sport plane - not a trainer. But that doesn't mean you can't use it to train.
Problem is that it will fly faster than a trainer and is more responsive and less forgiving.
Just get a good instructor and learn to manage the throttle. You don't have to fly it around at full bore. Find out what throttle setting maintains altitude and use one or two clicks more than that.
Also, if you ever get into trouble with it (you will) the first thing you should do is pull back the throttle to idle. That will slow the plane down and give you more time to figure out what to do or for the instructor to take control.

PS. That was a smart move setting your plane back down. These things can be dangerous and the last thing you want is for your hobby to make you bankrupt from a lawsuit. :thumbup:
