Default Slow Stick

Hey. I got 2 slow sticks for Christmas and I'm finally going to start building one and I have a few questions.

What servos are good servos to use? I have heard that the Hitec HS-81 is a good servo? What are some basic guidelines on picking servos out for a plane?

I have been looking around at different threads and have heard a lot of talk about wing stiffening. Are there any tutorials on how to do this? Also, are there any other mods that should be done when first building the plane? Thanks in advance!

I have used GWS Naro servos on mine. Any mini size servo should be fine. Don't spend too much, these are not precision planes.

Slow Sticks are a lot of fun. Enjoy.

I just built the wings per the instructions. They are plenty strong. I do recommend that you scrap the tape they give you, and just use clear Scotch packing tape.

While I consider my Hitec HS81's to be excellent servos, they are a little too large for the Slow Stick

81 are over kill for this plane. I use Hitec 55 or the E-flite 75. I like the 55 better. You can but 2 55's or 75's for the price you will pay for the 81. Plus you will not be doing 3d with the slow stick.

Can anyone tell me why the directions say to cut the metal channel "fuselage" and then join it back together with a plastic fitting?

It looks to me like you could just as well leave it in one piece. Or is it to prevent radio interference?

Thanks,

Jim

A while back, they made an "upgrade" to the fuselage design, to make it "easier to transport". Most SS's now come with a fiberglass tube fuselage, in two parts, that have to be joined together. If you have a one piece, aluminum fuselage, then you are lucky. DO NOT CUT IT. I understand that they mainly did this to make the shipping carton shorter and cheaper to ship. You will never want to remove the tail section for transport, so keep it in one piece.

Good luck.
