I have never built a model and am beginning the install of servos in a Hobbico Superstar.
The instructions for the Superstar say to install the servos according to the servo mfg. instruction?
The servos came in the box with the Airtronics transmitter radio and all they say is install the "rubber grommets and hollow eyelets to the servo.
They dont seem to fit no matter how I try.
Anyone shed some insight on where the rubber grommets go???
Thanks for the help!

You need to put the rubber parts into the mounting lugs on the servo case. Then you insert the brass grommet from underneath up through the rubber bushing. When you install the servo you want to mounting screws to just touch the rubber of the bushing. Many will just tighten the screw as far as they will go, but this will actually damage the servo. If you do this the rubber will no longer be able to absorb the vibrations from the plane. But it you tighten until the screw just touchs the rubber, the rubber will be able to isolate the servo from the vibrations.

I just re-read your post and saw that you have troubles with the servos is with the rubber grommets. I am sorry that I missed that. I took some pictures to help you out here.
If you look at the rubber grommet you will see that one side of it has a small "flap" over the groove in the middle of the grommet. This goes to the outside of the mounting lug on the servo case. It helps if you put it on at a bit of an angle (see the pictures) at first, then when the center hole portion of the rubber grommet is in the center of the mounting lug rotate the grommet to finish putting it on, with the little "flap" over the outside of the mounting lug. And then put the brass grommet in from the bottem as I described earlier.
Please let me know these pictures clear it up for you. If not I'll shoot some more for you.

RCKen,
Thank you very much for the fast and wonderfully clear install information-you should write the manual for Airtronics!
I figured that they grommes had to go there but when the mfg. made them, the grooves were only cut in 2 sides at a 90 degree angle and was impossible to install. After seeing your info, I found that the rubber from the 3rd side was not removed and after doing so it works great. I would have not got the eyelet in correctly without your photos.
I can now finish my model this weekend and ge it in the air.
Thanks again for the terrific help,
Best regards,
Wayne

RCKen,
I got out my magnifying glass and followed your instructions. What I thought was a rubber piece that was not removed was indeed part of the design as you pointed out and once I saw that, it all fell into place.

Ken Rocks!!
Great pics.....
things that those of us take for granted now that we have been in the hobby for a long time can be some of the most confusing.....
I'll admit that I was confused putting my first servo together... and if everyone else says that they weren't... they're telling a lie!

This is a little off subject. I am reinstalling servos in another airplane and don't know if I should replace the rubber grommets. Do they break down and lose their dampening?
