Way to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!! People around you are going to wonder what that silly smile is for on your face, but don't worry it will go away in a few weeks!!!!

A solo flight is a great accomplishment and that wins you one genuine RCU ATTABOY (Suitable for framing, wrapping fish, or lining trashcans).

All I got from my instructor, after being buddy-boxed to my P-51 PTS for one flight, was a transmitter handed back to me saying 'you don't need me. Have fun'. 5 gallons of fuel later ... I'm still having fun.... just like he said.

Congrats to "Jax"!!

In the ARF forum, theres a huge thread (4500 posts) thats pretty much all positive. Some of the 'bad' comments that you've heard probably have to do with the PTS being labeled a trainer. To lots of people, 'low-wing' and 'trainer' dont belong in the same category. Using the training hardware that comes with the PTS and a flight instructor, I cant see why anyone cant learn on it. Its a very nice flying plane.

I flew 30 years ago, so I had some experience .... plus I wanted a plane that would grow with me quickly. It has done all of that and more.

Your success is exceptional. Congatulations. Most people require many instructional seccions. Some take a few years. It took me much longer than the majority of my students. I learned in 1972 before simulators and trainer cords. I do believe you don't truly learn until you have a few crashes under your belt. Anyone else have an opinion on that? I try to learn something from each one of my crashes. Since I have well over 100 crashes (very , very few totals) I have become pretty good, though at 72 years of age, I'm slowly giving up some of the wilder manuervers. Tried some Lomcevacs today but my new twin tailed SPAD does not seem to be able to make one yet. It will though, or die trying.

The early 70's is about the time that I learned as well! I was maybe 12-13 years old, and my dad would hang over my shoulders with his thumbs on top of mine. I always remember those flights as very stressful! But thats how ya learned back in those days!! I had 2 planes that I can remember ...... one was a HUGE high wing trainer-type. Wish I could remember the names of them, but what I do remember .... I crashed them both. One way up high into a big pine tree that I never got back, and the other smashed itself right into the runway. Thats an image I'll never forget! Pieces were everywhere! LOL!

I try to be a bit more careful this time around ....

Congrats Jax. You have no idea how hooked you are yet. This is the best hobby in the world. I can't get enough of it. I have been in the hobby for a year now and I have 4 planes, building one, and a flight simulator. I told myself stick with one plane until you get good at it. Ummmmm yeah right. Welcome to the addicion.

Ditto the congrats! One lesson. Man, you are definitly a "natural". Makes me jealous as I have to work at it constantly. We had a fellow that accomplished what you did in our club in the late spring and by the end of the summer he was doing rolling circles.

Sad ending though. He got married shortly after that and we haven't seen him since. Perfume may be hazardous to your hobby.
