I don't know if this has come up, I'm sure it has, MY question is" What method do you use to keep epoxy glue out of the hinge movement area?" I have tried different tapes, oil, petroleum jelly, Alcohol 98%, nothing keeps it out, not drinking it!! What is your method? I still get glue in the hinge area, how do you fix this? Oh, I tried less glue, still goe's there.

Here's something you might try.
Cut a small rectangular patch of plastic film (e.g. backing from iron-on covering film) with a size that is slightly longer than the hinge. Cut a slit that matches the length of the hinge, and slide the hinge through the slit before applying the epoxy to the hinge. After installing the hinge and the epoxy has cured, break-away the patch of plastic film.

I dip the hinge area in vaseline and then apply heat (A match or lighter) to melt the vaseline into the hinge.

Works every time

What he said... Or, you could simply heat the vasaline till it is just melted, then dip the hinge in it only enough to cover the hinge at the pin.

that is by far the best glue for hinges I have used. on every thing, no ca hinges for me!

I also support the use of pace hinge glue. Did some test on scraps to see how well it would hold. When I tried to remove the hinge with a pair of pliers it would pull the wood with it. I can't use CA so this is a blessing for me. Try it- You'll like it. Hummm seems like I seen a ad like that.

I use Chap Stick and never have any trouble. For the epoxy that comes back out into the hinge joint.
I don't touch it until it starts to firm up. Then peel it away with a knife. I always ended up with a
smeary mess trying to wipe it away before it sets.

I use the vaseline method on the hinge knuckle. Takes some time to get it ONLY on the hinge pivot, with a toothpick, and not on the hinge flat. Wipe away excess epoxy that squeezes out right away with a Q-tip dipped in rubbing alchohol. Patience and beer are required.

The thing that makes the PACER HINGE GLUE so magic is that it won't glue the hinge solid and ruin the job.

It holds the flats excellently well, and doesn't do like epoxy does if a bit squeezes out. Wipe it off with a Q-tip or corner of paper towel. I used to try and put just enough epoxy in the slot to fill but not so much it squeezes excess out. Now I like to see excess hinge glue squeeze out. Wiping with a Q-tip is dead simple, and I know I have enough in the slot.

It's truly magic stuff.

Amen to that DaRock--I have really done some testing on all kinds of hinges and it works on all of them.

I have the little white hinges, plastic i dont know if there CA hinges like u'se call them .. but should i use epoxy 30 or Ca ?

That Pacer Glue sound like great stuff. I'm going to have to try it.
Would it be good for the larger hinges on giant scale?

Here are a few pictures of hinges. There are more varieties but these are common flat CA and Nylon hinges.

If you use CA hinges, do not use epoxy. Use only THIN CA on them.

I put vaseline on in big globs. I used Gorilla Glue on my last set of hinges and it seemed to work well. The glue expands out of the slits, but it is easy to scrape off after an hour or so. I also pinned them.

Use Hinge Glue on these or epoxy if you insist. NOT CA!!!!

Petroleum Jelly.

I use petro jelly, I don't even bother to use the heat gun. I've yet to have any problems.

Another vote here for Hinge Glue!! Once you try this stuff, you will wonder why you didn't try it sooner!!! No mixing, easiest to use, holds like crazy, and doesn't jam up th hinge joint!
