Greetings once again gentlemen,
- and a lady or two I might suspect. Surely I'm not the only one to think of using a cordless drill to start nitro engines. Is there a gimmick that can hook my cordless up to a rubber/spinner device like the commercial starter? As always, thank you for your superior expertise and wisdom.
What goes up must come down - if it can solve the re-entry problem.

It can be done, but for the price of a electric starter why bother. The main problem with a drill is that it will lack rpm's that a real starter has.

My Feedback: (13)
even a cheap electric drill is 40$ most as well have a clutch that will burn with exessive reverse RPM's electric starters are free wheeling, when the engine starts the drive shaft spins freely without restriction,if you take a close look and compare the motors a starter is Quite a bit larger, the RPM's provided by a drill is about 600,a electric starter is about 2,500.
there was a large thread on this subject a few months ago so I did some homework back then.

You can get a portable battery pack that you can mount a started on.
It's just a 12v battery...it's cool to have if you don't leave it out at the field.lol
The set up is $40 less the starter.
or you can just get a 12 volt battery and strap the starter to it yourself...it dosen't
need to go through a power panel.
Once you get better at tuning enignes and your engines breaks in more.
a chicken stick dose that job nicely. The engine just needs to get prime..

cordless drils just don't give it the quick snap of rpm's that is needed for good reliable starts every time. I once tried to make my own by converting an old honda motorcycle starter which seemed to turn up prety good rpm's but it just didn't work as good as a comercial starter. So broke down and bougt one never been sorry.
