I am moving from my trainer to a pulse xt 40 with a OS 55 AX in it. Is there much of a difference and what is the pulse like to fly
#2
Yes there are some differences... You are best off having someone help you out for the first two flights.
However that's a GREAT choice in planes.
Once dialed in, it tracks well, is very aerobatic, lands beautifully ( but under a little power, which will be new to you )... etc.
You'll love it.
I've adjusted, and maidened this plane for many people arriving with it at our field.
Do NOT assume that all the linkages are "ready to fly" as it comes, even if you purchase the RTF or PNP version...

Awesome plane
Flew my trainer for quite a while then progressed to the Pulse, was just an easy plane to fly from it's maiden flight, just a couple of minor adjustments and it flew hands off[8D]
I just love this plane,I've now ordered the 60 size, can't wait to get it
Cheers

Great flying airplane! You will, however, indeed find it different from your trainer. Like any sport plane, it will be "quicker" than your trainer. It goes where you point it and is not self-correcting as flat bottomed winged trainers can be. The suggestion to have a more experienced flyer buddy box with you for the first couple of flights is a good one. I like mine very much and once you get the feel of yours, I`m certain you`ll be pleased with yours. A little hint: mount your landing gear with 6/32 nylon bolts instead of he screws. They`ll shear off in less than perfect landings, saving you from ripping out your landing gear. You can get them at Lowe`s or Home Depot. A little extra 30 minute epoxy around the landing gear mount inside the fuselage is also good.

Mine flies great with an OS 46 AX; with the 55 it'll be a rocket!
The Pulse seems more sensitive to crosswinds while taxiing than my trainer did (or maybe it's just me), so watch for that. The landings are faster but not horribly so. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy mine.

I would also rate this as an excellent second plane, the buddy box idea is a good one just because it will be different that your trainer. I can see this plane being a staple in Hangar-9's offerings for a long time.

I'm going to order a Pulse 60. I like big planes. I find them a little easyer to fly on a windy day. I have a alpha 60 from Hanger 9 and what a nice plane all around.
Please let me know how you like your new plane. E-mail me as I don't read the forums that often.

No, it`s not just you!! A crosswind will DEFINITELY impact how the Pulse taxis. It will weathervane, and very much so with a stiff breeze. Just need to get used to it. Good practice for other taildraggers in my opinion.

I think you're absolutely right. I've been thinking about this, and you know, a crosswind doesn't bother me nearly as much as it used to. Last summer when the Pulse was new (and I was new, too!) I had a few squirrely takeoffs that made quite an impression on me. Now I find myself doing much nicer and straighter runs. Practice helped.
Anyway dmurf... be ready for the wind, and enjoy the Pulse!

Where did you find the Pulse? I bought one online 2 weeks ago, and they just told me yesterday it's on backorder. They told me last week that 'it looks like it's shipping out today'. I've been looking on my doorstep every day for a week. They even charged my card 2 weeks ago, and the $$$ still hasn't been released (cancelled the order once I found out). Boy am I disappointed. Anyway looking for somewhere that has the Pulse 40 in stock.

Its a great plane. I flew this one for a year before I got bored with it. Great knife edge. In my opinion...the 55ax might be too much. Go with the 46ax or super tiger 45. I learned alot with the Pulse.

i had a pulse as a second plane from my trainer, and it does fly really nice.
mines got a SC 46, that i mounted so the exhaust is at the bottom, i think it looks much nice than the engine sitting out the top.

The pulse with the OS 55AX is super and I had no problem fitting it to the plane. Good few experienced lads at the club flew it and said it was a good choice of engine and a lovely plane to fly. loads of power when you need it. It will also float around on low throttle as well. So the best of both worlds.Very nice plane and would recommend it highly.

Hi guys.
I have a Pulse XT 40 as well. Was my first plane with on OS46AX. What a great plane, but I was a tad unqualified to fly it and decided to wait a while with it. Had a trainer and a couple of othe planes since then and decided to haul out my Pulse again.
I also have a brand new OS55AX that I am putting in the Showtime 50 but waiting for parts to complete the plane so the OS55AX is mounted in my Pulse for a while :-) Bolted right into my Pulse with no modification neccesarry, apart from the cowl where I needed to make a small cutout for the needle valve that is in a different location.
So, flying it this weekend with the 55 and a 12x5 prop to start, will post an update and some pics about this combo next weekend.
I am so looking forward to this :-)

The Pulse XT 40 with an OS.55AX will fly just fine but is overkill. I have been flying mine for 2 years with the OS.46AX with an 11x6 APC and it performs great and just sips fuel. You shouldn't need the extra power of the.55 in this airframe. This plane is fast and a great plane to fly. Save the .55AX and use it in a Funtana or Showtime 50.

I've had the pulse 40 xt and just finishing building the 6o size version, The .40 size was great. A the field I would get to only fly it once or twice then the other guys would take over and fly it and land it. Allot of them say it compares to Gp Super Sportster. I love mine. as matter of fact I have an offer of 150.00 to sell it. Will most likely sell it to my buddy. I have mounted the new .61 NX evolution blue head to my new 60 size pulse. Very nice airplane. Will make a nice addition to my fleet.
