Buddy box question
#1
I thought I would post this here not in radio forum as the answer may help some begginers.
New member in the club comes down the field with his two trainers. I and another member go over the planes. Ready to go. (We think)
But I don't have my budddy box with me, so we do the old hot potato. First time doing that for me.First flights for him L.O.L Put first one ( tower 40 trainer) up 4 mistakes. Hand of, he flies great, no problems. After replacing glowplug, flew again. Was going great till rudder hinges pulled out. He passes tx and I land safely. No problem.
Next he pulls out the avistar. Go over it. I put it up. Was just about to pass the tx and the motor mount breaks. [X(] just enough alt to bring it around dead stick. Whew.
Now I've flow both these planes before. They have been around in the club for a few years. The Avistar is the first plane I ever flew when an instucter said aw come on give it a shot, you'll love it.
Anywho , to my question, What radio can he use with his futaba 2.4 6e radio. It has a square plug. He said he read somewhere that you cant use a radio with a round plug (sky sport, etc) to buddy box with.
Does it need to be a 2.4 radio?
thanks, venom

Venom,
You can use any Futaba radio that you can get the cords for. It doesn't matter that it's 2.4 Ghz. You can get a trainer cord that is small square to small square, or small square to round. Then you can use any Futaba radio that matchs the cord for the buddy box.

Yeah, FYI, they make a round plug to square plug cable so you can even use the older buddy box. Just remember that if you have any setup in the master transmitter (mixes, expo, and so on) it won't work with the buddy box. The only way to get that to work is to have two identical radios set up identically then connected up as a buddy box configuration.

Thats what I use , round to square on my box. (6ex fm to a skysport)was not sure wit the diff feq. is all.
So he could use his the same way? I told him to look on flea bay for a cheap used one and a cord.
Thank you all.

I just ordered and an avistar, I was DEAD stuck between that and the Tower 40. How did you like them?
The whole breaking mount is worrying me now, I wonder if the stock mount that comes with the Avistar is sufficient for the Thunder Tiger Pro .46

Both realy good planes. Avistar a little more advanced and flyies better in a bit of wind than a standared trainer because of the wing. But a very good trainer
Motor mount that broke was not stock. That avistar has been flown(and crashed, landed hard, etc for many years and many people)
and still a good flying plane.

The Tower Trainer .40 Mk II is basically a rebadged Hobbico Superstar 40 ARF, it shares a lot in common with the Avistar.
