Default rx battery source

I usually get my rx batt packs from lhs or servocity, but just wondering from where do you all get them from?

It's the best prices I have seen on the Sanyo cell packs. Quality is good, cross that, it's Excellent, and they are nice people.

Radical RC is a great source. I've bought from them and have been very satisfied with their product. They also have great support. I bought a LiPo battery pack from them one time. When I got it, I put it on the charger. But, I accidentally messed that up and it started to swell. I called them, they said to send it back and they replaced it.. even though it was my fault.

Good people to do business with.

Another great source is

http://www.hangtimes.com/

They carry the NoBs battery packs that have been recommended by Minnflyer and by Red Scholefield on several occasions.

The pages change so if the link quits working just go to the main page and scroll down to the blue R/C Hobby button on the left side of the page.

I received prompt and excellent service,

Regardless of who anyone buys it from, It has to be quality stuff. You can easily get a 4 pack on ebay but do I trust them in a plane? No way.

Engine dies, no biggie, dead stick and land it. Battery dies/shorts/blowsup well, not much you can do other than watch where the plane crashes so you can recover what you can.

DO NOT SKIMP on the battery packs and this goes to all people looking to get one (I'm guessing this thread will come up in searches a lot, assuming people use the search function).

Yeah, it pays to use a quality battery pack. I personally get mine from some of the places mentioned above, such as cheapbatterypacks.com and radicalRC. I've gotten great service and quality packs that have survived a lot of abuse from both.

I've purchased a number of 700Mah Ace Hobby 4.8V NiCd receiver packs from http://www.infinitehobbies.com. They have both the flat and the 2x2 types for $9.12 each.

ACE2906J - Futaba connector, flat pack
ACE2906S - JR connector, flat pack
ACE2907J - Futaba connector, square pack
ACE2907S - JR connector, square pack

This is the best deal on standard receiver packs I've come across so far.

Recently, I've been getting my RX battery packs from the LHS. He has the Venim 5 cell 1200 mah packs for about $21.00 which I consider reasonable. I have at least a couple of spares around and fully charged after I experienced a failure of an on-board battery pack a few months ago. Fortunately, this particular plane had a pair of RX batteries on separate switches and into separate RX channels. It failed in flight because it checked out OK prior to the flight but after the flight, it read very low, just over 1 volt. I was lucky to have a pair of batteries.. this, without a doubt, saved my Venus II.

This is, by the way, when I decided that voltwatch was the way to go. I found the problem when I shut down the RX. I turned off the battery pack 1 and saw the voltwatch go right to RED.. the second switch was still on. I cycled both switches, but when switch 2 (battery 2) was on, the voltwatch was in the red. With both on, it was in the green.. the second LED was lit. I removed the battery pack and put a new pack in the plane, checked it, and it was fine. I then re-charged both to bring them both up to equal charge and continued flying.

We took the battery pack apart and found a dead cell. Bad bad. This pack was about a year and a half old, by the way.

Another vote for radical RC. Good prices and service. Ordered from them a few times. Great selection.

Many of my planes are in the 9-12 lb range and for these a larger pack can work such as a 1100-1300 mah pack. Harbor Freight sells power tool battery packs for $10 that have 1300 mah cells. They will yield three 4 cell packs (one flat and two diagonally stacked) with three cells left over for glow driver replacements or they could be made into three 5 cell six volt packs.

I've not however been using them very long but they do cycle well and others have been recommending them for a while.

I'm in construction and have used several battery operated tools for many years and have never had a battery pack open. They do degrade over time however and thus the 80% rule should be observed, when they no longer cycle to 80% of rating... like always, they will be replaced.

The batteries that comes with the TX that I don't use when I purchase a complete radio system
instead of getting a flight pack when i add more models to my fleet.

and whatever comes with radio system and maybe buy an extra pack of batteries wherever i make
the purchase of whatever I'm purchasing from tower, because they get me buy that discount thing.
The more i buy..I'll get a discount. So i'll add an item to get the discount..but it's like a wash sort of.
I just have an extra pack of batteries

I recently picked 3 Hobbico Hydrimax 2000 MAH from the LHS
at $32 dollars each it was a bit pricey, But with 2000 MAH in one plane
and 4000mah (2 packs) in the other I won't have to charge my RX packs
every few flights.
