a friend of mines father inlaw passed away a few monthes ago and my friend asked me to take some of his old possesions to the dump and wow what a surprise when i saw a box full of old rc plane parts and low and behold a flat bottom plane that turned out to be a midwest aerostar 40 !! i havnt really looked at it real close because of lack of time but i did notice that the front nose gear turns around completely for some reason, it has a os 40 in it that wouldnt turn over by hand at first but now it does could anyone tell me the correct control throws and the cg for this plane? by the way i did pay him for the plane !!!!!!!

the aerostars were great. you probably need a new stering arm or just hooked up. take that engine off , take it apart and soak it in some fuel, it will loosin right up, if not do the crockpot stew for engines. crockpot with antifreeze on medium temp. I could be wrong about the temp. there are alot of threads on the engine sub-forum that can help you. get a new radio and get that sucker in the air, congrats on the find

Center of gravity is 3-1/16" back from the leading edge of the wing
control throws
Aileron 3/8" both ways
elevator 3/8" both ways
rudder 1" both ways

thanks missleman i was wondering if this motor thats in it dont work out i have a evolution .52 trainer would that be too much for this plane?

just soak that engine and it will fire up, the evo system will work also

I don't know see why a 52 would not fit. I was planning a 46 in mine.

i agree with draftman im gonna try to make the engine work that is in it but if it dont i will put the .52 in , in its place thanks guys for the help! you really cant believe how good of shape the old plane is in! and to think it was headed to the dump!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The 52 should go in but you may have to use a different motor mount and redue the mounting holes --NO BIG deal. I've put a 60 in one with out much trouble. Just be carefull about your CG. When you get it all back tgeather RIGHT I believe you will really like it. I still fly one and have a kit ready to be built if I need to, it's one of my favorites !!! ENJOY !!! RED

Anyway, I had a SuperTigre 51 in it and it was just right. Hope you get this one going because I think you'll be pleased.

I've bought motors that were locked up before and put 5 drops of fuel in (remove glow head) the head and 5 drops in the carb and 5 minutes later were free.....then add some more fuel and bump them with a starter, still with plug removed...this is the best way if your not comfortable taking the engine apart....Rog
