Default Fun new electro toy

Thought some of you gents with low wing experience might like this one. It kind of an alternative
to flat plate foam planes. My wife bought it for my B'day and after all the great stuff i have heard
I figured I give it a shot. 18oz weight, 39 inch wingspan and 44" fuse length. Made of a depron type foam,
full fuse and airfoiled wing and vertical stab, with a flat hotizontal stab. I've been told on low rates it's
a gentle flyer and glides in for a nice landing. Called the E-flite tribute FX.

I have about an hour of work into it and it's coming along quite easy. Simple build, very straight forward.
I was going to do a setup and assembly thread but I don't feel it's a beginners plane, maybe a second or
third after a proper trainer.

Yeah, that one will be pretty aerobatic once you've got it ready to maiden. It looks like it's coming along nicely, though. Be sure to let us know how you like it after the maiden flight!

g-day
boy that looks like fun . dont try and fly it as a first plane because you will crash it after about 5 seconds go to a club and tell them what you want to fly and ask them how you can work your way up to flying it.
good luck with it and happy flying

Overbored is an accomplished pilot. He's been flying RC Pattern for a couple of years now. I solo'ed him and know he is fully capable of flying this particluar aircraft (or anything in the inventory for that matter).

Nice job, Chris. Looking good!!!

Was out at Straw yesterday. Nice day!! I only got one flight in, though, the Skylark nosegear mount came undone (vibration and a new plane..) But, the flight I did get in, it flew straight and true. No bad habits other than long landings.. I have to get used to that again after flying the Protege.. ha..

I have 2 words for you Dick, Super Star. I was going to head over yesterday but I had some
errands and what not. I am maidening the 1.20 Yak next weekend so I have been working on that.
Taking it over to R.L's one night next week for a setup session and checkout. Roy has been a bit busy
with the new position and won't have the Icepoint fuse finished for the first pattern contest so I will
be flying the Yak.

ED I will definitely let you know how this little guy flys, Supposedly she can be mild or wild and can fly in
a little more wind than most foamys. I have heard 10-15 MPH but that sounds a bit out there for an 18OZ plane.

Thanks Simmo, thats good advice.

The Super Star is on the back burner for a while. I am a tad bit intimidated by the OS 1.60 and the plane design. There is some conflict about the CG and I don't have full confidence on exactly where to put it. So, it will be fix the Protege (after that little mishap at Straw a few weeks ago) and the Skylark 70.. plus the other three.. I will have plenty to fly this upcoming season.

Dick.

I took my amp readings saturday morning and was pulling 16 amps at full throttle with a 11x4.7
slo flyer prop, Castle Thunderbird18 esc, and E-flite park 450 motor. Went out to maiden today
in 10MPH winds. Charged my new 1300mah 3s1p packs and did a contol check, all looked good.
set the plane on low rates and advanced the throttle and it took 3 ft to go airborne. Once in the air
it took 4 clicks of up elevator to fly level at 1/2 throttle. I flew around for about 2 minutes and the
little guy was great, very gentle on low rates and animalistic on high rates. I decided to do some
wind surfing and slowed it down to about 2 clicks of throttle and just hovered about 12 feet off the
ground. I also tried my hand at knife edge wind surfing, although hard it looks awesome to see a plane
stalled in the wind on a knife edge.

I was having a ball when the motor started acting weird, speeding up and slowing down on it''s own.
then it just shut off. I had to make an emergency landing with no forward momentum, and only the wind
holding it up. I got it down safely and while walking over the surface controls died also. upon further
inspection the ESC burned out. This was the second time I had problems with this ESC and it just came
back from being repaired. I checked the RX and all is good. I threw away the ESC and getting a new one
tomorrow.

Other than the fried ESC the plane flew very well, even for an 18oz plane in 10MPH wind. I can''t make
any reccomendations on it as the testing wasn''t long enough but I think she will be a winner.

That''s weird about the speed controller, but I''m glad to hear the plane isn''t any worse for wear and tear!
