Just another update and repair report.
#1
Havent flown in a week and a half, getting that itch!
However, when the weather turned on me I decided it was time to pull the shoddy tape covering patch I had done on my ailerons when I repaired them before putting the bird back in service. Oil was getting at the wood of the aileron under the covering and tape.
Soo, I takes the covering off, completely stripped one side, the other just the repair area.
While heating and cleaning the wood to get the oil out I discovered something. My aileron torque rod repair didnt hold, I assume when I put it on the CG sling it broke it back out. (I remember distinctly hearing it go POP!! Guess I should have followed my gut and refixed it then, got lucky!)
So, I cleaned out the holes I had drilled to get at the torque rod and cleaned out some of the old epoxy, then re-repaired it, and recovered the ailerons with real covering instead of packaging tape... Now I know what that rattle has been when I flew it all the time. I also discovered the hinge on the outer end of one of the ailerons was pulling out, I put some CA in there and rebonded it. Hopefully it holds untill I tear it all back down at the end of the year for recovering. (Im planning to change the color scheme and clean her up a bit this coming winter.)
No pics as Im at work, but I figured Id chime in so I can get some tips on how to do it better next time I run into this sort of problem..
When I tear it down next time it gets a second servo and the ailerons direct connected instead of Torque rods! I almost did that this time, but I was unsure how to build a servo mount in the wing.

Make certain that you test the CA hinge by pulling firmly on it, sometimes a reglue doesn't stick as well as they appear to at first. If it didn't hold, just cut all 3 off, and put in new hinges next to the old ones, don't reuse the spot where the old hinges were. Sounds like you're on your way!
