Default Flooded flying fields in the midwest.....

hello everyone,

just a quick post to see if anyone elses flying field is under water like ours is ? here in wisconsin we have been getting drenched and are supposed to get more rain pretty much all week.

looks like i wont be flying for awhile as the field is soaked and the rain water is washing away our driveway to get into the field.

take a look at the pictures from our local newspaper here = http://www.fdlreporter.com/apps/pbcs...6080815&Ref=PH

so if anyone else has photos of there flooded fields, please post them so i can see were not alone in water water everywhere club [&o]

thanks and have a great day if your still able to fly

The field where I fly at is going to flood again, it is in a location that tends to flood from the river every spring

Get some floats for your planes and fly that way

Nope, of course we never flood because we're on the top of a hill.

Sorry to hear about your field, unless of course you are all float flyers then it is heaven.
we have had lots of rain and strong winds in Michigan. As we speak 25 mph gusting to 40 mph. Tough on my little foamies.

sorry about the field,
Look at the positive side of flooded RC field, if its flooded every once and a while there is no will or incentive of real estate people to take over and close the field….

I was in Manotowok, Wisconsin on Saturday evening and Sunday as participants for the Thunder on the Lakeshore Airshow. We flew down from Canada in a pair of F-18s' and while over South Dakota, we flew around the nastiest weather I have ever seen! We were at 41000 ft and the anvils on the TCUs' were topping at over 50000 ft. THe line of storms was probably 300-400 miles long in an East-West direction.
When we were on descent into Manotowok, we went thru another line of cells in close echelon right formation. With leads wingtip 15 feet away, you could just barely see the wingtip missile launcher! WHat a pucker factor!

I can only imagine the ferocity of the rain on the ground at the time. We did get to experience it later on Saturday night, but we were enjoying drinks at the reception at the time.
I will post some pix and vids from the air, when I download the camera....

thanks guys,

floats do sound like a good idea for a few days but i geuss i will just wait it out until it dries and then fly.

hornet

yes they were some nasty storms we had a bunch of tornados around the state and also alot of straight line winds that were over 80mph. was not a fun weekend. they said we got 5 inches of rain in just a few short hours. [:'(]

south of us closer to madison alot of houses lost roofs or parts of roofs along with alot of trees down all over. not much fun.

The SPAD guys had to move SPADFEST 2008 from Bondourant, IA (sp?) near Des Moines to Council Bluffs, IA about 160 miles west because the original host field was under water last week. 21 pilots made the trip to Council Bluffs to fly their SPAD aircraft, which was a great turnout considering the last minute move. Many of the pilots camped out at the flying field in tents. Saturday night they were treated to severe thunderstorms, torrential rain, and an F2 tornado.

Rest assured that Wisconson isn't the only place that suffered from adverse weather recently.

Our field is in Mt. Pleasant, WI (Racine, WI area) and so far we're above water. We've probably had as much rain as you bassman, but even though we have a clear field it's too rainy to fly.

The club I am joining is on top of a small hill overlooking a lake. I would think about getting some floats so that in the future you can fly as soon as the wind and rain stop and don't have to wait for it to dry. The problem we have been having is the almost constant 30mph winds[:@]! I hate it since I am still on a buddy box and can't just go whenever it gets nice.

In St. Louis, we lost about 6 weeks in April/May but are open again now. This is a Buder Park in Southwest St. Louis County.

Here is a link to the photo album I just put up. There are a couple pictures of fields in North Dakota with lots of standing water in them and a small stream/ river that is spilling over it's banks.

Pictures 575 to 589 are the first line of storm cells which hit Demoines Iowa on Saturday night. The nasty weather in the later pix is the system that moved thru Wisconsin on Sat/ Sun. Picture 582 is me thinking this is suicide if the cells are spitting large hail out the top! We managed to find a spot that was about 40000 feet and just skimmed the top of the clouds when we passed over.

If you keep checking back, I will be adding more photos over the next couple days.

Here's a pic of what our field looked like at Buder Park in St. Louis. Thats the pavilion we normally sit at and if you look closely just to the left of it you can see the airplane stands lined up in front.
