Last year we had issues with a local power plant who's overhead crane system was interferring with our aircraft on a channel in the low 30's.. It does happen! And if it happens in one direction (crane interferrs with aircraft), then it could happen in the other direction (up elevator = load release? BAD!)
They since repaired their controls and we've not had more issues. We think... A couple planes in the 30's range did have troubles a week ago, but hits or errors, we weren't sure.

Across the street from where I live ( by the way it is in the country) I have a set of high power lines. If I am flying my glider on channel 48 and I am underneath the lines it plays all kinds of tricks with me. If I go to channel 57 the problem goes away. By the way CG soup is onhomemade chicken with wild ricea toss of green onion, carrots and celery thrown in. I pour you a bowl.

Ken, sorry I read more into what you said than was there. I'm trying to educate myself as to what we could actually interfere with, moslty in reference to safety, and leaving the legal issues aside for now. As an example of what I didn't know but do now, I was not aware that our frequencys were in the same range as TV signals. I knew we had industrial applications in our range. Of course, in my somewhat oversimplified veiw, TV would qualify as industrial.
Jburry, I certainly would not want to interfere with such equipment. The crane I used could lift 4800 lbs and reach out around 40 or 50 feet horizontally with that load. Would have been very easy to have had interference cause me to drop a skid of shingles through someones roof, and I would never have known why. However, I had thought that the transmit power used by such devices was such that it would be next to impossible for an rc system to cause interference. I was just trying to find out if that was true.
Now, don't flame me here. I am not trying to promote, condone, or justify changing Tx crystals. I have never done this to an airborne Tx, nor do I intend to. I have, however, done this in 75mhz ground systems for years. It was common practice and even expected at large races to avoid conflicts. I only own one ground system that I got with the original Xtal set and though I still have the set I doubt it is in that Tx. Actually just remembered that I now own some 27mhz systems and those are original.
I guess what I am wondering is what am I actually going to interfere with with an altered 75 band system? Legal implications aside that is.

Hey Darkbird this is a little off topic, but where do you fly. I am not to far from Jackson. I fly with the Balsa Butchers and I keep their name honest.

goirish, I literally fly all over the eastern side of the country. I'm a truck driver, and as you know jobs in Mi. are tight right now, so nothing local. When I'm home I grab the bigger stuff and head for our club field. Here is a link to our clubs website and a couple shots of the field. OK, never mind, I can't figure out how to make a link to post and the pictures I have access to aren't very good and don't do the field justice. Do a search for JRCC Jackson Radio Control Club and you should come up with something or use the club finder on the AMA's website. Some time when I'm home we'll have to get together. I always like meeting new modelers.
Back on topic, I will say that I am going to be switching to 2.4 for my ground stuff when cash allows. Same problem as with my planes, just too many to do all at once.
Edit: I think I figured it out. Here is the link: http://jrcc.netfirms.com/index.htm
Just realized we need some better pic on our site[
