Hi i have a OS46 Fs installed on a hanger 9 cherokee, engine mounts require engine to be mounted on its side,i tried to put it in upright position but the hole orientation won't allow it, the problem i am having is the engine seems to starts easily even with a chicken stick and idles fine but when i increase the throttle it becomes rough and quits, another problem is i noticed a drop of glow fuel hanging from the emgine head and when i lifted the nose up a hole lot of fuel poured out of the muffler as well.
Is there a seal or gaskit thats leaking in the engine head or should i just try tightening the bolts?I have a hobbico RPM meter do you know the proper RPM ranges for this engine..?
Your input will be appreciated...
thanks

No, the only problem resides on a proper tune of your engine.
Firstly set the HSNV to the most revs. You can get, and then richen it turning 1/8 of turn backwards at a time.
Then you have to set the LSNV, the goal here is that the engine transition from low idle to WOT very smoothly, if it becomes rough and quits then I bet that your LSNV is way to open try 1/8 turn to lean the mixture and see if the transition goes better. This task could be tedious but you will get to a point where the engine transition smoothly from idle to WOT. Then recheck the HSNV and you are ready.
One more note: if the LSNV is too lean the engine will quit as well so you may try richening the mixture if the problem is worst, but as I imagine I bet that you will have to lean the LSNV.

1. I don't know why you want the engine upright, but anyway : you will have to redrill the mount holes and put in new blind nuts .
2. Sounds like it just needs a bit more adjustment ( high speed leave the low speed alone !!!! ) probably needs to be leaned a little.
3. You can try tightening the head screws/ bolts, you might also check that the glow plug has a gasket and is tight. As far as the fuel comming out of the muffler when tipped up, that normally would just be that you over primed or it's way too rich. It's not unusual to get a little fuel out of the muffler when tipped up.
4. I'm not sure of the RPM but when you find it and get it set BACK IT OFF ( richen ) about 2 or 300 RPM. It will keep the engine cooler and put less ware on all the neat parts, making it last longer.
Hope this helps . ENJOY !!! RED

Hello every one and thank you for your input, tightening the screws on the head stopped the leak and aftering tweeking the high speed needle valve i was able to get it transitioning pretty smoothly for idle to WOT TWO....but one thing i noticed its not starting likes before with just a flik from chicken stick,i will keep experementing until i get it right,
Could some one explain the pinch test to me,as far as i understand if i pinch the fuel line the RPM should go up and somewhat stay there,is that correct...?
Thanks you very much every one for your in and thak you Red Head...

the pinch test is how you adjust the low end.....pinch off the fuel line to the carb if the engine dies right away then the low end is too lean....if it runs on forever then your too rich...if however if it runs for a few seconds then revs and starts to die let go and it returns to a nice idle thats where you should be..now adjust the high end...go to full throttle..adjust the high end to max RPM by sound..then richen it a quarter turn..

PS the best way to adjust the engine the first couple of times is with some help from an engine guru

I had a similar problem today at the field after a deadstick and someone noticed a cut in the fuel line from the tank where it goes through the firewall. I'd check the fuel line as well.

Lot of fuel out the muffler would indicate this to me. tank may be too high, vent(pressure) line not going to TOP of tank, reversed lines. High speed needle not properly adjusted, far too rich. is this new motor?
