Default How should I secure fuel tank?

On the sundowner 50 theres no specified way to mount the tank. Iwrapped the whole thing in 1/4 in foam and just threw a velcro strap around it. It seems to hold ok but the center line of the tank is about 3/4 of an inch below the carb. Isthere anything I can do with this?

Thanks,

Erik

oh and its a non pumped OS 91 surpass

I doubt that you will have any problem at all as long as you have ALL the plumbing as it should be.

The Velcro should be fine. I might add second strap just to be safe. I wouldn't worry about the tank height. It will likely run just fine.

You might get some guys responding that you can't have more than 1/2 inch, but mine is about an inch lower and runs great.

Thanks guys. When I put the canopy on it holds the tank in pretty tight with the foam. The quick balance check shows its not that far off. So we'll see what happens when I get everything together. But back to work tomorrow. hopefully Ill have the strength to keep goin.

if i can get a Velcro strap at the back of the tank i will.but most of my tanks are held in place with the foam and i never have had them come loose.the canopy is not a good thing to hold a fuel tank in place with if it is plastic.they tend to vibrate loose and if you use screws with pressure constantly against them the screws will cause stress cracks.

If you look in the manual, they show a piece of scrap balsa or hardwood glued behind the fuel tank to hold it in place. This method works very well.

Foam doesn't weigh very much so don't be afraid to use a lot of it.
