I've been looking around online for some landing gear from my first build, and I am having some trouble finding what I need.
I'm building a SPAD Piper Cub, so it's a taildragger. The plane will be about 7lbs with a wingspan of 76" and the part of the fuselage where the landing gear is going to be connected is 4.5" wide.
I already have the tail wheel ready, and I have no problem finding wheels, I am just looking for a site that has a good selection of those U shaped landing gear struts that will be a good size/strength for my plane (seems all I can find are expensive carbon fiber ones). Also, I don't really know what I'm doing as far as selecting the correct axle/collar, so help there would be appreciated as well!

tay,
since you fuse is that wide you might want to try a set of these profile landing gear there for a .40 size plane so should be strong enough for your plane, should also easy to install.

hope this helps.

I have no idea what you want to spend.
Goldberg composite gear with axles $17.99
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...4&I=LXHBP8&P=K
Length: 14-3/8" from axle to axle (inside measurement)
Mounting Length: 3-7/16"
Height: 4½" from mount area to axle hole center
Color: Black
Since it comes with axles you don't have to make a choice on them.

take a look at the DuBro gear. www.dubro.com. Super Strength landing gear. I use them on a couple planes, they also have the axles you need. ENJOY !!! RED

Not sure if this is the type of gear your looking for,but these dubro flexible gears(same one red head mentioned I think) are GREAT. I've been using them on the last 3 planes I've built and will likely continue to do so. Its the only gear yet I havent managed to bend or break. It might be alittle narrower at the top then your 4.5",but it will still work. I have a plane or two where the fuse is wider, but it looks and works just fine.

I highly recommend the Dubro gear mentioned above and found at http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXNM65&P=ML . I use it on my 71 inch wing span SPAD J3 Cub which weighs about 7#. I have had at least three very hard landings/crashes, and the gear is like new even though it probably flattened out during the event. Best gear I have seen during my 36 years in this wonderful hobby. Plus the price is right.

You did not state how it is going to be powered. If it is a gasser or larger glow I would forget preformed LG and buid some.
Tower - http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXR937&P=ML Some wheel collars same size, silver solder, brass wire, some strap alum. to aid in attaching to fuse. Oh yes, a jewel of a tool: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXGFW4&P=0
A person can not have too many tools!! You can build stronger than what you can buy. a two strut Landing gear is tough and you can build the proper width ( about 19" footprint) so it landings and stays off the wing tips.
There are several how to build wire gear instructions, probably where you got the build instructions would have some photos and instructions.
Where did you get the plans for such a light model?

I got the plans on spadtothebone.com. It's made almost entirely of coroplast, so it's pretty light for it's size, yet durable.

For landing gear, ideas among other things, pics are some of a couple of builds.
