Default 4* Maiden

At last the weather was nice enough for my youngest student to get in the maiden flight of his kit build 4*60. Other then teething problems {all My Fault!!} the plane was ready to go. Three beeps of aileron trim and two or three beeps of down elevator and it was smooth as glass. After the second flight the Saito 100 went dead stick so I finally had to lean out the low end, after that it was A lot of fuel getting burnt!! The kid is happy with his new plane and I'm happy with my new plane, we both got in A lot of stick time today, Don't Get Any Better Then That!!!!

hey so what's your opinion on the Saito 1.00? After you adjusted the low end about how long did the flights last? Im looking to get the Saito 1.25 for the Aeroworks edge 540 .46-.60 size.

As someone that went from their first trainer to a kit built four start a couple weeks back I can definitely agree with the smile on his face. What a great plane.

I have worked with both the 1.20 and the 100, more 1.00s then anything though, both outstanding engines. From the factory they are set fat so you can run them and break them in. in the case of this engine today I only ran maybe 1.5 tanks of fuel through it and never touched the low end so I knew I was rich. I waited for that dead stick then did the low end without any more problems. Next time out I will lean out the high end too but it's prop selection time now so I would just be chasing the needles for no reason yet. I have broken in A lot of the 1.00s.
The 1.25 is the fattest running engine right out of the box I have ever seen but it's nothing I wasn't warned about ahead of time and it's true. There is no reason to bother setting A needle until after about three tanks of fuel, after that it takes about three more tanks to get it set enough to fly. As they get more air time you can start getting the needles set and they turn into outstanding engines. I have only worked with two of the 1.25s so far so I really can't say this is normal or not?? The fellow that warned me has broken in A lot of them so I took his word for things and it seems to be correct.
I like them both and being as I'm A YS guy that may mean something?? Or not.

If your confused about four strokes then you should go over to the glow engine forum and pop on into the Saito suport and read some posts or read your instructions or buy A book on glow engines and read that or do A search here, this subject has been covered to death. No reason to be confused at all.

Didn't mean to tick you off, I misread your post. I thought you said you broke alot of Saito's when you actually said you broke-in alot of Saito's. []

Your post was clear to me, Gray Beard. Both you and the kid had a blast, which is what it's all about. And, that's a good looking design on the covering. Looks like a keeper..

I've not flown a plane with a 4s engine except for an OS 52 Surpass several years ago, and for what it was on, it did great. Break in was minimal and it flew without incident for as long as I had it.

Again, nice looking plane!! AND, one great smile!!!
