Why won't my field charger detect my 6EX?
I have the plug for my 6ex to be able to peak charge it using my field charger, but it does not detect any connection to the battery. It worked on my instructors field charger, but not on mine. Could their be a physical connection problem that I'm missing? It charges fine on the wall charger.

RE: Why won't my field charger detect my 6EX?
Some chargers do not work through the charge jack because there is a diode in the radio to protect the radio from reversed polarity. The problem is that peak detect chargers or any chargers that measure voltage before charging cannot read the voltage so give an error message.
My field charger does the same thing. I have to unplug my TX pack and charge it outside the radio if I use that charger. (I put a 2,000mah battery in my TX so I don't have to charge at the field anymore)

Futaba will replace the diode with a 'poli-switch' that will allow your charger to detect the battery and also allow you to cycle the pack through the charge jack. Price is $20 and it's the last item on the form located at:
http://www.hobbyservices.com/futaba-rates.html
Any good service center, such as Radio South, can do the same thing. You'd have to ask them for pricing and turn around info.
There web sites that show you how to bypass the diode by soldering in a wire, but, that defeats the protection thedioide or poli-switch provides.

I installed a "Y" on my 6DA between battery & radio plug inside and trimmed a little "C" in the edge of the battery cover rim so I can leave the tail hanging out. I then plug the charger(s) into that.

The Polyswitch acts like an automatically resetting circuit breaker unlike a fuse that needs replacing when it blows. Good item. Just be sure to leave something in to protect the radio.

Your instructors charger may have been a timer type quick charger not a peak detecting charger and that is why it could work through your Tx charge jack.
The third best way to do it is removing the battery.
The second best way to do it is installing a poly switch that most have mentioned.
The best way to do it is to not quick charge at all but rather a C/10 rate most of the time.
