Plane ideas - Your thoughts?

Hey Minnflyer,
You said that here in the hinterland, fly in the summer, build in the winter. This will be my first winter as a pilot and I am looking forward to having flying fields available on every frozen lake in the vicinity.

If I am guessing correctly you are refering to the little hobby shop run out of a preacher's house. He mows his yard for use as a runway and keeps a very nice and unique invantory. If I have it correct tell him I said hello. He's a neet guy. If you have a couple of hours, or five, to kill ask him about Revelations

Mr67Stang, how could you POSSIBLY know this ??[X(]?? I HAVE TO KNOW!!!!!!!!! [
] It's on Hwy80 West in Selma, AL! Your tag has you in NC. HOW do you know about this place???? I haven't had the chance to visit it yet (i've only been in town for just over 24hrs, with work all day until 600pm tonite), but this is EXACTLY the place! What's your "real" name? (you can PM me with it, if you're not cool posting it) and I'll make SURE I bring him your salutations. He's name is Ken Scott and he's a retired Minister who runs "Grace Lane Hobby Shop". I've spoken with him on the phone and he sounds like a GREAT guy - I've even talked to people at the plant (BushHog) and they've all said the same thing about him. Apparently, his son also works at the plant, so I'll have to look him up as soon as I can (being my 1st day, I was a BUSY BOY!)
Apparently alot of his customers in the flying club are into "control line" flying (of which I know NOTHING!). This is one of those topics I'm going to have to research - to me, because I know absolutely nothing except childhood memories of planes on a string making big circles (this was back in the 70's when COX engines were about all there was around - that I can remember; I must have BEGGED my Dad to buy me one 100 times! I was about 9-10 years old and I thought those things were SOOO COOL !!!! ). I think that was my 1st desire to learn to fly "toy" planes (at the time, they were small, plastic, etc... thus to a 9-10 year old, it's a "toy"
); now almost 30 years later, I'm FINALLY getting my wish to learn to fly (but with a 4-7 channel RC plane). Right now -again b/c I know NOTHING about this kind of flying, it sounds kinda dull, but I'm SURE I'm dead wrong about it. Otherwise there wouldn't be so many people doing it around here - there has to be SOME kind of appeal to it. I didn't even know that control line planes were still around, much less being flown regularly! I remember finally breaking my dad's will and getting a "short string" (maybe 10'-15'), electric motor style flyer when I was about this age ; I remember my mom NOT being happy about it
I've definitely got to research this topic somemore to see what it's all about with "modern" engines and airframes.
Today was my 1st day on the new job and I didn't get out of there until late, so I missed the shop. It'll try either tomorrow during lunch or maybe next week so I can meet him in person and talk to him about what I want. I'm almost SURE he doesn't have one of these on the shelf, so he'll probably have to order me one. Incidentally, one of the reviews I read online about the Tiger2 had the guy flying it using a K&B .45 -which is the EXACT engine I was planning to use on it! It's an older engine, but apparently, it's a really good "classic" engine with a good powerband and gives the plane plenty of GO!
I think I'll pass on bring up Revelations, though
there are 2 topics I avoid discussing just out of personal principle: (1) politics and (2) religeon. It's just that these are 2 very, very personal topics that I don't like to discuss with others. I'm not putting down anyone's belief system, it's just that these 2 topics are exceptionally polarizing and people go to war to defend their "beliefs".
btw, I found a great picture of a Tiger 2. This is something I WILL NOT do to any plane I have -put those little pilot busts in them - i personally just don't like them unless they're done VERY VERY well and they "fit" the plane PERFECTLY - I may have seen it done right on 2-3 planes total; 1 was a Giant Scale Jenny biplane with a fully functional "cockpit" complete with a stick that moved with the ailerons and a cockpit that was fully painted and decaled to the level of "art". This particular picture shows the "goofy" side (imo) and the writer evey says he never got "attached" to the plane - mostly because of the "pilots". I can't really say I blame him....
It could be a little harder than I thought getting the cash together to buy the plane, engine, and servos.... my wife is rather "insistent" on keeping the books....
I've got to figure out how to smuggle out $300 for plane expenses!

Hey Spacemonkey, I am in the Air Force and had a class at Maxwell AFB in Montgomery a few months ago. Naturally I sought out every hobby shop in a 100 mi radius
His was the best by the way
I will tell you though that he will bring up religion even if you don't and quite possibly drag racing as he has some history doing this as well. He does/did have the Tiger II ARF in stock and if memory serves me he was packaging it with an "Aviastar" .46 bb engine (distributed by SIG) I have never used this engine but if it's from SIG I am sure it is top notch.
I only got to visit him once but I enjoyed it emencely. His shop is one that you will likely never forget with so many aircraft hanging from the ceiling of so many different types that any R/C air enthusiast will be able to find something they like/want/NEED!!!
My name is Phil and when I visited him I had an Air Force buddy with me named Brandon. He might remember our visit, he may not.
If you get the chance check out the RAMM (Radio Aero Modlers of Montgomery) club feild just south of Montgomery. Awsome group of flyers and hobbiest. It will be worth the drive. Search the AMA club locator to get to their website and find the directions to the feild and or contact the clubs point of contact person.

My Feedback: (4)
Now if you want a really cool color scheme for the Tiger, try this one. It's just a white bottom with an orange top, but the top piece has a jagged edge in the front to simulate whiskers.
Then, as it goes back, the top piece curves up and down to simulate the white on a tiger's belly, and black tiger stripes are added.
Here's a pattern for the stripes and a pic of one I did for my wife in Pink and Pearl.
