From: Ewa,
HI
I know that there are a couple really large threads out there about the Twist, but the problem is they are too BIG. I was having trouble finding good info since there are so many random posts. So I'm just looking for some good tips for when I start to do the assembly. Weak points, crappy hardware that I should replace, etc.

Great plane, just follow the instructions. You'll love it. It's been a while since I assembled mine so I'm not sure if you have to do this or not, but if you have to remove any covering from the horizontal stab prior to gluing it on, then use the tip of a hot soldering iron and not a knife. Also, when flying, remember it's meant for 3d not speed, so don't fly it fast and remember to throttle down on all down lines. Oh and use at least 25% expo until you get used to it. Good luck!

Only weak spot is the fuse. where the wing bolts on. Broke mine in two on the second landing. Mind you it was a little rough but not hard enough to break the fuselage.I put trianglular 1/32 ply on the outside, 8 in. long at the bottom. Took many hard landings and been in the trees since then.
Mine is about 3 yrs old and they may have fixed the problem since then. Still my favorite electric plane. Does whatever you tell it to, no questions asked.

Could you post a pic of where you reinforced? Also, I sent a email to a Hangar 9 sales rep to see if any mods have been made to the newer Twist .40 planes.

'Fraid I don't have a camera working right now but the triangle is 8 in. across the bottom and 4 in. to the top, or apex and centred over the wing trailing edge joint. Cut to fit. Of course I cut the covering off in that area. Hope this helps.

I broke mine in the spot where the wing bolts on and reinforced it when I fixed the plane.
Here's one pic where you can kinda see how I fixed it with balsa and popsicle sticks !!!!

Yep, that's the weak spot. Trouble with doing it on the inside is that former that's in the road from putting any strips fore and aft. For strength you need you need a one piece bridge across that weak spot.

I wish I could see a pic of your repair Flypaper 2, I still a little confused on how you positioned this reinforcement piece. Is your repair piece on the sides of the fuselage over the spot that cracked?

Yes it covers the whole side area with the top of the triangle at the top of that vertical piece and the bottom, forward end of the triangle extending 4 in. from where the back of the wing sits and back 4 in. along the bottom of the fuse.

Okay now, extend or pull that horizontal line all the way down to the bottom of the fuse. and cut out the piece where the wing fits on. That's on the pic on the left.
