Default ASP 4-stroke run in

I just got an ASP 1.20 4-stroke engine and discovered that the manual specifies castor oil fuel only for run in, and castor/synthetic mix after that.

There is nowhere around here that actually sells castor oil fuel, and while I can mix my own fuel (basically a necessity round here because the pre-mixed fuel is very poor quality) I was just wondering how necessary the castor actually is, and if there's a specific type of castor needed?

G'day,

When all else fails read the destructions. If you really feel you must Castrol R is about the best castor around. However............if you check with the agent I think you will find that Brian Winche's 20% Coolpower Blue, 10% Nitro and 70% Methanol will not void the warranty and you don't have the gumming effect of castor. Still if you have a lean run castor does protect better at extreme temps.

Seriously e-mail Brian as I think he is the service agent for ASP.

Cheers,

Colin

If you do run with Castor in your fuel make sure you buy the "de gummed" version. Takes a lot of the gunk out of the process and still protects the engine. Brian Winch did the warranty work on a Magnum engine of mine and they are the same as ASP

They use castor because of the ability of it to protect the engine during the first runs where wear is highest. You will only need around one ltr of fuel with castor to run it in, had to do the same with a Magumn 160 twin and then after run in I only use Klotz as that is the only oil that I have used since the early 80's. If there is a bike shop around there you will be able to get castor there.

Cheers

Thanks guys.

Think I'll follow the instructions, which is a gallon of 20% castor only fuel then synthetic/castor blend. Just have to track down somewhere local that sells the castor oil. That's the problem with living in a small town.
