Hello,
I'm considering buying EasyStar ARF ([link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_8127020/anchors_8127020/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#8127020]my post[/link]).
Please tell:
1. What is the minimum area in which EasyStar can be flown by an experienced flyer ?
2. What is the maximum forward speed of stock setup ? speed of typical BL setup ?
3. EasyStar ARF comes with Brushed motor, but requires "Great Planes ElectriFly C-12 Micro Brushed ESC w/BEC" ($25). Is there cheaper Brushed ESC ?
Can I use my 2S 800mAh Lipo with stock EasyStar ? Can I use 3S 2200mAh Lipo with stock EasyStar ?
4. Should I go Brushless from start ? Is "Multiplex Power Pack MiniMag/Easy Star " the recommended BL setup ? Is there a cheaper option ? Which BL motor, ESC ?
5. Any recommendation on cheap servos ?
Thank You.

It will turn on a dime, but to do comforatable slow laps at low-level I would recomend a space about 150' X 150' as a minimum. I regularly exercise my dog by letting him chase the easy star around my back yard.
more likely you will take yours above the trees and are really just looking for a space to launch and land? If you just need a space to land probably the minimum opening in the trees might be 100' long by 20' wide. Sometimes I land my easy on my street or driveway with no problem in low winds. it really is that percise that an experianced flyer can land on a neighborhood street without hitting the neighbors mailbox, or land in a driveway without hitting the garage.
You could very easily fly it on a ball field.

Userrc -
Can you tell me a bit more about your experience in flying?
[ul][*] How much you've flown (if any)?[*]What kind of access do you have to flying areas?[*]Your budget?
[/ul]
Reason I ask is so I give you the advice you're looking for and not my opinion. I teach rc flying at my local field and since I got so many people asking the same questions I created a post to give the newbie a starting point. Check it out if you want:

However if you can answer the above I'm all about helping a fledgling flying get their wings!
And as for the pricing and stuff, give me a little bit and I'll post some info soon.

Ok, read your previous post userrc and have some thoughts. But first, here are my answers to your questions.
1. Football field would be the smallest. If you go smaller you're basically loosing the ability to do much of anything other then keeping it in the "area". Obviously, the bigger area the better. And like AstroDad said, just fly high.
2. With an EasyStar you're not going to get warp speeds. Even with a brushless motor you will peak out unless you want to rip your wings off. =) Approximate 70mph as a complete ballpark speed for the ES - stock or brushless.
3. Brushed speed controls run about that price. It's an unfortunate reality. You CAN use your 2-cell 7.4V 800mAh Lipo with the stock brushed. UNLESS your 3-cell is a 7.4V (which I'm assuming it is not and that it's a 11.1V) DON'T use it with the stock motor - you'll burn it out. even with a good speed control.
4. Again, based on your experience I can't completely answer this. My girlfriend flies a Mulitplex MiniMag and loves it! I have it set up with brushless and can give you the specks (it's WAY overpowered, but that's because I had the stuff lying around) if you want.
5.HiTech is the cheapest and best quality for the price for mini/micro servos. I have many. Also, Specktrum, though they seem expensive, does offer a Super Sub-Micro Digital servo for around $19 each.

Now to answer the rest:
Personally I have seen some great results with the MiniMag from Mulitplex. If you're looking to get some loops/roll/inverted flight - it will do it with the proper brushless set-up. And it will be very gentile to fly when you ask it to be that way. As for durability, I can't say enough about the Elapor foam they use. It's virtually indestructible. You could tank the MiniMag and what wil happen is that the plastic joiner to the main wing will snap - that's all. Oh, and a dented front end (sounds like I've done this before eh?) It's durable.
As for cost? With a modified brusheless set-up you'll be looking at $225 total.
If you're looking at the Trojan, I did a review on Control Chat about it - you can make your decision from there but I will say it's not a beginners airplane for someone new to fixed wing aircraft.

Hope all my ramblings help! Take care and good luck!
