Default RE: Suggestions for Cold Weather Start-Ups

Hello Fly Boy2

Taurus Plus I did see a picture in the past but I do not know anything about it.
When you have questions send a post, open a thread in the vintage pattern RC part of RCU, many pilots there they know about I think.
Maybe the Taurus Plus wasn't known in Europe!

About temp measuring:
I am an intrumentation and control engineer so I build my systems myself.
I know that there are temperature measurement systems to buy, (for cars?) on our glow engines.

To measure I use a thermo couple constantane - copper, and this is silver soldered on the glowplug sealing ring.
Electronics is conventional analog as used mostly in the past.
I think only a thermocouple will do this job with these temps,

In my Taurus and the transmitter I have more instruments with a total amount of about 23 operational amplifiers.
It's my second hobby but too complicate to duplicate because it's all analog electronics.
These days you can find a lot of useable electronics with the PIC controller, but I do not use these.

To have such a system like temperature measurement you must have an important reason others you also simple can use a enviromental measuring device or look to local information TV/internet what you already do I read.

When the temp outside is beneith 14 degrees C so 57 degrees F is important to know, because then you have a bad evaporation.
I do fly under all weather conditions and often alone, especially in winter it's very important to have a reliable engine and equipment.
When you lost the plane outside the field it's possible you cannot find it back because its dark, that's the reason I also have a spotlight in the flight direction to land the plane.

(It's bad visible on the picture of the other post, so I add some more.)

All the electronics of the Taurus have a seperate battery for safety reasons!

Often I think the use of electrical starter motor in the winter is wrong.
When you can start your engine in the winter maybe it is only because of the friction and carterprecompression assists the temperature of the engine rises above the temperature we want, but in that period it is very bad to rotate the crankshaft because of the piston and liner clearence and bad lubrication!!
Warming up with warm water brings the engine above the critical temperature to prevent worn out.
At low temps also the glow battery have lower capacity to start we already read in other posts, so you do not have much time to try.
Succes with "Winter Flying"!

Cees
