Default 55 AX tuning question

so my 55 AX has run perfect since i got it. i recently moved, and it has been quite a while since i have flown it. this weekend, i flew again. it seems to idle fine, and runs fine at wot. if i jam it open it makes good power like always, but it seems that if i ease into the throttle, about half throttle it goes very rich. smoking a lot and kinda stumbling/burbling. it clears out if i jam it open again or go into a dive. it did the same thing on the ground or in the air despite any changes made to the high speed mixture. now since i have moved and changed climate, can it be a low end mixture adjustment is needed. to be honest, i did not change the glow plug. maybe it is going bad and that could cure it. i will try that first before i start messing around with the low speed mixture.

any suggestions?

Since you said you moved/changed locations it's a good bet that you need to tweak the low end on it. When you moved was there a big change in the elevation or change in the humidity levels?? It sounds like the low end is a bit rich and it's "loading up" on you. Try leaning out the low end a little bit. Make your adjustments a little bit at a time (1/8 turn) and check it out after each change.

Hope this helps

well, i moved from lowland NC to about 1500 feet above sea level in Turkey! also it was summer in NC and now is getting a bit cold here (not really, low 50's). humidity is probably less this time of year. so next weekend, i guess i will throw in the new glow plug and start playing with the low end.

Big changes like that can definintely make for changes in an engine like you described.

thanks for the advice, that is what i figured. funny thing is i also brought a very high performance '65 chevelle with me. fuel curve does not seem to have changed a bit on that. anyway, again, thanks Ken. i just was looking for some affirmation before i started messing with it and got all out of whack. i have tuned enough glow engines to know to make note of where i started and make small adjustments and take note of their effect. actually that is part of why this had me a bit baffled. i played with the high speed mixture with inconsistent results. obviously too lean wide open seemed to transition better, and then about right wide open it blubbers around while cruising.

thanks again. i will letcha know how it goes next week.
