Default Looking for a post on cutting a cowl

I had seen a post on cutting a cowl that showed taping strips of paper or posterboard to get the layout to transfer to the cowl. I have lost that post. Does anyone know how to retrieve it. Thanks

This should give some help. I use manila folders for the material.

Nice I never even thought of that approach to line-up the proper areas for the engine. Excellent idea, seriously! I'm cutting a Piper Cub cowl (Hangar 9 .40 model) after deciding to place a Saito .62 in it, however, I can't get the cowl over the engine to even take this approach right away.

What I'm doing before hand (now that I'm going to use your approach) is to use a manila folder, like you, and create the initial "hole" for the 4-stroke to exit the cowl. THEN once I get the bulk of the engine taken care of I think your approach to finding the proper holes for the high/low adjustments and the glow plug are a perfect approach. Here's the image of my template for the cowl of the 4-stroke. Saved me a lot of hassle having that set up before I began.

I got it pretty close using brown wrapping paper: [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_7276786/mpage_5/key_/tm.htm]Post #119[/link]

And, I also had some issues getting the cowl over the engine. I ended up with the front open more than I wanted. Some guys have gone back in and bolted the front/dummy engine in after the cowl is mounted.

I just downloaded the manual for the 90-120 Yak at aero-works.net and it's got a big, color photo section for cutting and mounting the cowl with all the tricks.

I believe Minnflyer has a video of how to do the cowl. Gene, you may want to check that out.

Great!!! I don't know how to do two quotes.
It's easy. The software looks for the combination of [ quote ] and [ /quote ], takes everything between the two and draws the box around it to set it off. It also is programmed to insert the word "ORIGINAL" and the name of the poster. Every time you type in the [ quote ] and [ /quote ] it will create an additional "quote" box.

If I want to quote a couple of different parts of someone's message, without backquoting the entire thing, I'll usually just cut out what I don't want and type in the extra start/stop quote marks. You can freely edit within the quote box just like you can in the text of your own message. Just "quote" the whole thing, then cut out what you don't want, insert you own text where you want it, then add the extra quote codes to set up a second or even a third quote box.

Note that the software is looking for the square brackets around the word "quote" to start and stop the quoted lines, and that I added an extra space in my example (bolded above) to prevent them from being picked up as markers in THIS message. You also have to remember to use the forward slash "/" for the "ending" quote mark.

Well lets see if I can do that

You probably forgot to install the second set of [ ] [/] brackets.

I wish you guys wouldn't make it look so easy. Do I click on the quote and then put the brackets around it?

Just click the "quote" link above the post or after clicking "reply" and then place the cursor where you want to break the quote. Then type in the new [ /quote ] [ quote ] at that location. Remember to "Break the quote before reinitiating it by doing the un-quote first. Then you can also preview to test your post before actually posting.
