Default New NiMH Batteries, charging questions

I just got a few new Hobbico 1450 mah NiMH packs. 2 4.8v and 1 9.6v. They say on the label to charge at 150 mah for 16-20 hours before use. My question is, should I discharge them before the first charge, or should I charge them according to the label, then discharge and recharge them. I checked them with my voltmeter, and they're reading like they're fully charged. These are my first sets of good batteries, and I want to form them properly. I'm using a Hobbico Accu-cycle charger. Thanks

Gary

They may read a full charge, but they won't last long if you tried to use them.

Just charge them up as directed, you'll be fine.

Just put them on a charge at the recommended rate for the recommended amount of time. I generally cycle mine but , to be perfectly honest, I'm not sure if it is really necessary or not.

You said "voltmeter" which is probably not a "loaded" or ESV (expanded scale) voltmeter, so you did not really load the battery pack to see if it was really at full charge.

As said already, I third the motion... put it on the charger for the recommended time and let it go. It will be just fine.

Not sure if you know, but a fully charged 9.6v battery will read over 11 volts, and obviously then a fully charged 4.8 volt battery will read much higher as well. No need to cycle nimh batteries, just charge them and use them.

Happy flying =)
