Default learned ALOT today

Didn't fly today, but did run the engine, Had a real fit trying to get it set (high idle mix). Everytime I thought I had it right, I would hold it vertical at full throttle and it would lean out, when I put it back to horizontal it stayed leaned out and then would stall ( might be what happened last weekend). Then I had it too rich, and throttle response was slugglish. Backed it off to an idle and I noticed that the pressure line came loose. I left it disconnected and pushed the throttle stick to full throttle! Great response, and it kept running. But that told me it was way too rich. While investigating why the line came loose I noticed that the fuel tank had slid backwards, causing the line to pop off (will throw some foam behind it. Anyway I leaned the high spead idle screw and finally just a tiny bit at time, got it dialed in. Running like it should. Spent three tanks of fuel taxiing around the back yard. Learned a lot by doing that too. Good thing I left the wing off, or I'm sure I would've went for it. Looks like I;ll be ready to fly nex weekend!!

Bill,

Great ! Yes wrap some foam all around the
tank. You don't want to have a dead stick from
that.

If you learned that much every time you went flying - Some you would be a genius?

May have been frustrating as it was happening to you but as you look back you learned a lot

We've all been there

Thats what you need to do......just play around with it alot before flying it. Like I said before, most guys (especially veteran flyers that think they know everything and OS lovers) dont spend time getting to know thier engines and just "expect" them to run perfectly out of the box.....and if they dont its always the engines fault and it must be a junky engine. Some engines are just crap, but most will run great once you figure them out and sometimes their harder to figure out then some woman I know!
