Is there a order to learn rc flying in ex. takeoffs, 720's, stalls, landings?

720s, isn't that a bmx trick? Even my trainer will roll 3-4 times on a pass if you do it right.

I had heard this same thing before all well. Until I saw Quique Somenzini fly. He flies thumbs only. And he definitely has extremely excellent control of his planes.

Ken

Let's see which technique he likes to use when flying a 200 mph bird 10 feet off the deck?

If, of course, he flys 200 mph bird 10 feet off the deck.

Even after all these years, I still seem to fly 3 mistakes high!!!

CG, I think the grip is instinctive, depending on the type of flying, type of plane, or like I think you stated based on comfort . For 3D flying the thumbs seem to be the best grip to make quick, full range throws. I think it is an interesting subject because I make no conscious effort to fly any single way.

You could be right. I seem to switch from fingers to thumbs, except for my darned right fore-finger and thumb. Pinched nerve did a number on my right hand.

As I think about it. I also change from one to the other. But mostly on the right hand I use the finger and thumb more.

If I use my thumb on my right hand it's over control city. The plane wiggles like a galloping ghost. I figure it is actually a nerve problem association with carpal tunnel

I've always been a thumb flyer, but lately I've been using my finger tips to fly my new
mini heli. I just caught myself doing it, but does help me fly the heli more precisely.
If it aint broke, don't fix it.

I switch around. I never really think too much about it, but I usually use my thumbs. On cold days, I have to use my thumbs and fingers.

What a lot of people don't notice is how adjustable our gimbals are. On anything but the cheapest of TXs you can change the height of the sticks. Take the back off the transmitter, and you can adjust the tension of the sticks. No matter how you fly, adjust your radio to your liking.

Yeah, true. On all of mine (two of them) the TX sticks are set to the highest tension. The lengths are about mid point.

Focus'ing on the airplane not the sticks should be what we are doing when flying, not trying to figure out "fingers or thumbs". I would bet that a lot of us switch back and forth without even realizing it.
