I have been tolled to cover my plane (pt-40) to use Towercoat because it’s good and It’s inexpensive, some say use MonoKote because it’s strong others sat it’s hard to work with, some say ultrakoat is best. For a beginner what would be the best to use.

For a beginner I would use the towercotesimply because it is cheaper and you may have to take some off and do over.

Hands down - Ultracote

I tried towerkote first cause it was cheap, and I can see why. It did an ok job, but Ultracote is so nice and easy to work with. I like it so much better. I've covered 3 planes now, haven't used monokote yet but I highly recommend the Ultracote. Oh, towerkote is difficult to cut. Ultracote is like cutting wrapping paper, piece of cake.

I'd recommend Ultracote too. I'd suggest that it is the most forgiving product to use, so you are less likely to need to recover.

Stay away form Towercoat. There is a reason why it's cheaper. It's very difficult to work with and won't give you good results, and for a beginner it will be overly frustrating for you on your first covering job.

I use both Ultracoat and Monokote, but if asked which I prefer I would say Monokote. I get great results with it. For somebody starting out I would say Ultracoat is going to be a bit easier on the learning curve.

OK you guys I give up. Ultracote is the way to go. I was just thinking if he and never covered before will probably makes lots of mistakes, two rolls of towercote to one roll of ultracote. Funny I use ultrcote but the only thing I don't like is: only the white to my understanding come in greater length than 6' I like coverite and monokote for that reason.

Funny that I said towercoteI have never used it and was only thinking of the cost. I don't know if the stimulus package will help me buy ultacote or coverite. RCU should get it's share of 785 billion.

Yes, the ultracoat is more expensive than the towerkote. However, with ultracoat you can up it up and pull mistakes out and then reapply the covering. With towerkoat once you make a mistake it's premenant.

I used Towerkote I gave up on it and threw away what I had left. I wouldn't even give it away it was so bad. I wouldn't use it again if I was given it free!!!! [:'(]

I don’t think the $16.00 ultracote is worth the price! I would rather take my time and use TowerKote for half the price.

I understand what you are saying, but trust me in that you'll be saving yourself a ton of heartaches. The other problem with Towerkote is that it will not stay tight after you apply it. Every time you take it out in the sun it's going to sag and get loose. It's very frustrating to have to come home and re-tighten covering after every trip to the field. The extra money for Ultracoat or Monokote is really money well spent

Remember you get what you pay for!!! I use to be cheap and when it's all said and done you will land up spending more than you bargined for. No more! Use the Ultracote. I had not built anything or covered anything for 30 years. I built my TF Arrow and covered with Ultracote and it came out really nice.

There is an old saying "only the rich can afford the inexpensive, because you have to replace it so often"

It's not that you need to take extra time, its that the quality is not nearly as nice. The wrinkles don't come out as well, really hard to cut, it's thinner and just sucks compared to ultracote. Do what you want though, just please post pics of the work when you're done.[sm=wink_smile.gif]

Please use Ultracote, the extra cost is well worth it, and I am sure in the end you will be happy you did.
Here are my PT-40s that I covered in Ultracote. Yours can come out just as good.

I trust the opinions in here so even though I can’t really afford ultracote I will use it. Were can I get a good deal on ultracote and a sealing iron Tower hobbies don’t have ultracote.

What I saved on a sealing iron at http://www.horizonhobby.com made up the difference in the price of ultercote.

You will be very happy with your decision to go with Ultracote.
