I just purchased a Alpha 40 Trainer recently with a JR RX from a friend for my son to learn to fly on. The question I have is if I change the JR FM crystal to match the FM crystal of my FM Futaba 6EX TX, will these two systems be compatible? Or should I just change out the JR RX for a Futaba RX and crystal instead?
Please advise all, Thanks

Mike is correct. Basically, one uses what is called "Positive shift" while the other uses "Negative shift". This is the direction the carrier frequency is shifted when transmitting. No amount of crystal swapping will help. Swap in a Futaba RX or one from an aftermarket supplier that is compatible.

In addition to what has been said do not try to order a new Futaba Rx and use the JR Crystal in the Futaba Rx. Beyond the fact that its bad Ju, ju to mix crystal brands and Rx's the probablility is high that the Your JR is single conversion and the futaba in most cases is dual conversion. Single conversion crystals and dual conversion crystals are completely incompatable.
