I shot a couple pics of these rc's hanging in the aerospace section at the local science museum. They would look nice at a my field, especially with me piloting!

Is this a the Omniplex? I was just there for a meeting with my job a couple weeks ago. I love that place. I walked around the airplane portion for an hour or so. I wish I knew the name of the airplane engine that they don't know the name of. I think it was right next to the engine that was in the your picture on the "show yourself" post.

Yes bonebreak, it was the omniplex. They call it "Science Museum Oklahoma" now, but like the "Cox Communications Center" downtown it will be known to original okies as the Myriad.
The first pic is a p-61, and the second is a copy of a plane that Wiley Post flew with Will Rogers. It was the one they died in.

The first picture was the plane dubbed "The Black Widow" correct?
I believe it was the first night fighter. It was equiped with forward radar, 4 - 20mm cannons, rear machine guns and 2 Browning 50 cal. cannons mounted on the bottom of the fuse. It also had a upper turret that I beileve was removed later on because of operational issues.
Way cool plane.

Brett, do you know if that is the plane Marty Young built? He had at one of our events once. He ran the engines but would not fly it because it was not painted. He said it would not fly until it was 100% done. His work was second to none. The Hellcat he buried at Westside was one of the nicest warbird I have seen in 20 years.

That magnificient red airplane is a model of the airplane that Wiley Post and Will Rodgers died in up in Alaska on an attempted around the world flight.
It is a modified Lockheed Orion on floats. Most were on wheeled retractable main gear and used for airline dutys in the US and parts of europe.

I remember spotting an aerospace museum on the way to your fly in last year, it was named after an Oklahoman astronaut and I can't remember the name or where it was. Was it in Elk City?

Brett, you are talking about the Thomas Stafford museum at Weatherford. It is located in the airport. They did a major remodel about 2 years ago. I have not been there since. I need to drop in next time I am over there. It's about 40 miles east of Elk CIty. If you are interested in a day looking at planes. Go up to Liberal KS sometime. They have a very nice little museum. I would guess it is 150 planes or so. SOme civilian some home built a few warbirds and about 20 models. There is a also a cutaway of a 20 some cylinder radial.

I think we may be going to Galveston, Texas toward the end of the summer. They have a very nice museum down there. http://www.lsfm.org/

Been to the Galveston one a couple of times. Went with my father once many years ago. He wanted to see their P-38. He flew one in WW-II in Europe. Talked them into letting him sit in it for a few minutes (after contacting owner).

There are also quite a few nice RC planes in the terminal at Enid Woodring Airport. And my dad built the Winnie Mae that's hanging in the resturaunt at Wile Post airport
