I bought this rx battery thinking it was AA. I didn't realize it was AAA size. Will it be OK in a 40 size glow plane that uses 4 standard size sevros? It would go in my 1st low wing trainer, I don't do any kind of 3d or anything like that. I asked some guys at the club, but they just kept saying what they would use, I would just like to know if I should return it and get a AA size or not. The picture you are showing is a AA. What is the mAh of the one you have?

I would go ahead and try to send it back and get the AA size. The voltages are the same and both will work, but the AA size has 2000 mAh compared to the AAA's 750 mAh. So the AA size will hold a charge and last a whole lot longer than the AAA size.

G_Brill, your 750mah battery will most likely charge OK with your radio's wall wart charger. A 750 mah batt will most likely provide you 60 to 70 minutes of actual in flight time, with some reserve left. using 4 STANDARD servos. High torque output servos or DIGITAL, nay-not so. Back in the '70s and '80s anything over 800 mah output was some kind of high expense item not available to the average RCer. We flew and flew. I still use them in my smaller models.

I have been performing some tests, and the average wall-wart charger with 50 to 75 mah output will NOT fully charge a 2000 mah Nimh or Nicad battery. In fact a fully charged 1500 sub-c Nicad batt. will not maintain a full charge when fully powered with a 50 mah wall-wart charger being used as a trickle charger. I have not experimented with large Nimh. However my transmitters are all equipped with 1500 to 2000 mah Nimh and they will loose the top end rather quickly, but maintain stated voltage longer.

Radio Shack stores have fantastic discounts every so often as they change out stocked items. A couple weeks ago I purchased two 800 mah 4 AAA cell packs for 2.97 each. I bought several 2 cell packs of1500 mah AA Nimh for 2.97 each. They have cycled beautifully after 3 runs. All I have to do is make a clip or two, solder on a proper connector and good to go. I have plenty connectors from old packs that seem to not do well anymore.
In addition I have purchased some excellent chargers with plane and transmitter capability at RS for as little as 47 CENTS each, but usually at 3 to 5 $$$. Need some tad of outside connector rewiring and good to go. Several are good for all ranges of voltage from 1.5 to 12 V. with a 300 to 500 mah output.

All these bargains are somewhat like a woman buying shoes. I have far too much electric equipment.

G_Brill, What type of charger are you using? Even if it's just a wall-wart charger, it will still get the 2000 mAh AA size charged to a higher capacity than the 750mAh AAA size. If you want a direct answer to your question instead of the political answers most give, just return it and get the higher capacity AA sized batteries.

Thats what I thought, I just looked at the pic, Volt & MAH.

I have a good MRC charger, I was worried it wont have enough capacity because its AAA. I guess I would be best off returning it and getting an AA. I got the bat from Tower, Its unopened, so they will take it back.

I use AAA size batteries (GP "Red" 850mAh) in my Q-500 pylon racers and in my Marutaka DC-3.
I use one of my 29 year old JR, 50mAh, wall chargers

I have to dissagree with hosfly's comments that the wall wart will not fully charge the larger battery. Unless he has found a way to defy the laws of physics, it certainly will fully charge it. As long as the energy being pumped into the battery is more than the self discharge rate, it will eventually reach full charge, a simple scientific fact.

How to know if your wall charger will work with your new set of batteries?
Follow this rule:

Your battery is 4.8 Volts
Capacity is 750 mA

1.- Option “A�; Your wall charger has an output (receiver) 5.8 V ~50 mA (old wall chargers)

2.- Option “B�; Your wall charger has an output (receiver) 5.8 V ~150 mA (new wall
chargers)


Think that your battery will be fully charged when it reaches the capacity of 750 mA and also think that at any charge there will be a loose of about 15% of the capacity of the battery, then at the end you have to calculate the capacity of your battery as a 750 + 112.5= 862.5 mA

If you use the option “A�
The equation is: 862.5/50=hours of charge
Then the result is 17.25 charging hours.

If you use the option “B�
The equation is: 862.5/150=hours of charge
Then the result is 5.75 charging hours.
