Hi all,
Been awhile since I posted, but I am wondering if there is any limitation to the types of servos you can use with the Airtronics RDS8000 receiver. I have mostly Hitec servos and a few Futaba. At $199.00 for the 2.4 radio with two receivers this sounds like a great deal if I can save my servos.
Thanks,
Rob

Your servos will work fine, I think you may have to trim some of the little guides on the futaba style connectors I have not looked at the style of connector the RX uses. But as far as any electronic issues no there will not be any.

Yes, you can use any servo with this radio. In fact, this is exactly why Airtronics choose to package the RDS 8000 (and the new upcoming 10 channel radio) with no servos. There are so many different uses for a radio that it's very hard to package servos that suit everybody. Put high end servos in and the price is too high. Put basic servos in and the advanced guys waste money on servos they never use. You see where this is going. Airtronics choose to lower the price and remove the servos and let the end user decide what they want to use.
Your existing servos will work great with the Airtronics. On the Futaba servos you may have to clip of the alignment tab, but otherwise they will work.

And, just to add to this, one nice thing here is that you CAN go to your LHS, or Tower Hobbies, or wherever, and buy just the servo you need from the very basic standard servo to the high tech digitals, just what you need, not what you have to put aside for some future use.
Often, radio systems will come with the basic servos that you can buy for about $10.00 that will work for trainers, or some of the 60 or smaller sized aircraft (note some.. not all!!!) the servo that came (comes) with some radios may not be applicable for larger or more precise (pattern) or strong enough (pylon) so the servos get put aside and the RC'er has to go out and buy better servos. Wouldn't you prefer to get a radio without servos, for a less and more reasonable price, then buy the servos you really need rather than for some servos that you amy or may not use.
I have a storage box that has several servos that are looking for a home right now.
One minor comment. The Spektrum DX7 came with some pretty nice servos. But, it took me almost two years to put together a plane that I could/would use these servos on.
Although it's nice to get a complete system in a box, that contains a transmitter, a receiver, a battery charger, a switch, and four servos, well, it's also nice to get a radio with the transmitter, a receiver (in come cases, two) and a charger without the servo.. at a pretty good savings over the higher cost "complete" system?
I think I have to agree that I like the idea. Reason: I just bought a new Spektrum DX6i and it did NOT come with servos. As I said, I have several in my spares box so I used them. By re-using what I had in my "stock", well, I saved about 60 bucks. Not a bad deal.

The RDS8000 is compatible with Futaba connectors, however there is a tab on the connector that needs to be removed- not a big deal at all, just a pair of side cutters or razor knife or even a finger nail file...
I just got my RDS8000 and I am very impressed with it- its a very nice radio!!

I am kind of new with 2.4. I just purchased a new Futaba 2.4 7 channels and Futaba receiver. What servos can I use, can I adapt non Futaba servos and are there adapters to brand to different brand connections.
Thanks
