How about a spinner question....

It really is about how the spinner looks on the plane. There is not a huge weight difference between spinners (unless its purposely weighted).
Personally I'd go with a 2.25 on that plane but I have no idea what a 3" would look like. Not that that plane is scale, but scale planes' spinners don't cover the whole width of the fuse unless it's tapered.
But do whatever makes you happy, that's what it's all about!

True, the plane dictates the spinner size. On a trainer most folks just run a spinner nut. Just a nut that's cone shapped like a small spinner. It's easier to remove and install during prop changes and it allows you to use a starter. I had a OS .91 four stroke engine in one plane with a 3 inch spinner on it so it looked good/fit the pane. I have another OS .91 four stroke in an old Kaos that I built a cowl for, it has a 1 1/4 inch spinner on it. That's about as small as will fit on that engine and still have enough mass for a prop to fit behind, it's a tight fit!! Anything bigger and the plane would look stupid, friends do let friends fly stupid looking planes!!!

The spinner is matched up to the plane and not the prop. The Tower Trainer comes with a 2 inch spinner, and that fits a 10 or 11 inch prop.
When you get into cowled planes you will have to match the spinner to the nose of the cowl, and most 40 and 60 sized planes will take a 2 to 3 inch or so spinner.
The only time you will have problems fitting a spinner is when you start using APC props and will need to cut the slot larger.

Is it the APC props??? Or is it the prop size??? That is an ugly spinner, by all means change it !! Change it tomorrow!!!! Mater of fact, remove it now, very ugly!!
Fooling aside, a good aluminum spinner will also be a safer spinner. Problem is finding a three balde spinner so you may want to change props too. A nice aluminum spinner and a bullet proof Master Air Screw on your trainer. Sure is fun spending other peoples money!! Just joking!!

Yeah I totally agree with the crazy man above me - get yourself a nice 2-blade prop and spinner. That is a 'training' prop. Your plane will fly a lot better with like an 11x5 prop. Master Airscrew is a great prop for a trainer.
That spinner IS ugly[:'(]

That was the original spinner that came witht the Evolution PTS in the plane. The three bladed prop was long gone...I think by the time I soloed. I got rid of the heavy flywheel and put on a proper prop driver and a 2 bladed 11x7, that prop pulled like a train but may have been putting a bit too much load on the engine. I'm on a 10x6 now and though it doesn't have nearly unlimited vertical anymore the exhaust is fuel colored now instead of the grey tinged looking stuff that was coming out of it before... I'll save the 11x7 for the Evolution .52 and the OS 55 that are in the future hanger...

in my opinion I'd leave it alone and save the money for your next plane, pimping out a trainer is like pimping out a Geo metro.

I would put the 11x7 back on it, maybe go down to an 11x6, but a 10x6 is pretty small for that engine. No sence running too many RPM, you will shorten the life of the engine. (I was getting over 11,000 RPM with an 11x7 on an Evo TPS engine)
As for spinner, I would not make it as wide as the nose. It sounds like it would "fit" but in reality, it will look silly. Go with a 2 1/4" or 2 1/2" and no bigger.

In an old Aeromodeller annual (1949?) there is the statement that the most aerodynamicaly efficient spinner is 1/5 the prop diameter, ie 2 in spinner for 10 in prop. For what it's worth.

To get a spinner to match the cheeks you would have to get a 4 inch spinner. And it will not improve the aerodynamics of the plane because the wing has the aerodynamic qualities of a sea anchor.
