Thanks to some great guys at the club I recently joined, The Birmingham R/C Club, my plane (kit built LT-40) took her first flight today. She took off practically hands off and glides in to a landing requiring only a slight flare just above the runway. This plane will really make you look good. Furthermore, I hate to bash any particular engine but if you are a beginner, please save yourself bunch of grief and don't by an MDS 48 Pro for your first engine. I burned nearly a gallon of fuel trying to get it to transition consistently. I'm sure that eventually this will be a good engine but I think it is just too finicky for a beginner. I finally gave up and bought a Thunder Tiger 46 Pro. This engine has performed flawlessly after only a slight low speed adjustment and I would have to recommend it to anyone. Oh yea, dont let me forget all the expeienced guys who frequent the beginner forum to help us out. Your advice is greatly appreciated...
Thanks

Mike,
Glad to hear your LT-40 had a successful maiden. They're great flying planes, and make good trainers. To have successful, stable flight with little trim means you built her well. Feel good about that.
You might want to start looking around for that second plane. I'm betting you'll be ready for it in a few weeks.

Thanks DBCherry and RedWing,
I am 98% sure that my next plane will be another Sig Kit. I like the size of the 4*60 but will probably stick with a 40/46 size plane for simplicities sake. Either a 4*40 or somthin' extra.

Mike,
Both are supposed to be decent second planes from what I've heard, but the Somethin' Extra might be a bit much. They're meant to be more of a "Fun-Fly" plane, and as such, will be much faster to respond to control inputs. This is generally a good thing, but if your thumbs aren't sufficiently trained, it can cause problems.
If you go with the Extra, keep the throws set real low to start, and have an experienced flyer standing by the first couple flights.

Congrats on your maiden flight, Dega. I remember your first posts to RCU 'cos they were around the time that I started building MY LT-40. I'm balancing my plane now, and will hopefully be taking her to the field either this week or next week.
Have fun,
Neil.
