Hi all, I am new to RCU, but have been flying for 10 years or so. I fly alot of 3d on my proflie plane, and am just getting a new 30% Extra broken in for this season. I am looking for some people to fly with as well, so if you are from the area and want to fly let me know. I live on a farm so i usually fly at home.

Hey Erik,
Welcome to the forum. I just got started back into the hobby last year and have met a lot of good people around the TC area that I like to fly with. I joined up with the Twin Cities Radio Controllers this year and have been very happy. Their site is TCRCOnline.com. We just had our open house about two weekends ago and it was a great showing. If you are interested in flying with us, check out the site for some open dates, it's a great group of guys.
Also, I try to get together with some local folks to fly out on one of the area lakes in the winter, so if you are interested in that, send me a PM and I will add you to the list. If you search for the Minnesota Frozen Float Fly, you should see some pictures of the group.
Take Care,
Curtis

Thanks Guys, I dont have a float plane finished right now, I do have a half done amphibious plane, but dont think i will get to it too soon. I think i am about done flying at my place for the year as the corn next to my lawn is getting pretty tall and making it hard to come in decent. Ill have to get the mower out and go to the pasture i guess.

Erik -
Don't listen to these yahoo's above - they don't know what they're talking about. Especially that Curtis - he's a shady character... be wary! Ok, ok, now that I've dogged them, I welcome you to the rcu world my friend.
I'm in your ballpark with the flying locations. I belong to the Grassfield's Club up near the intersection of 169N and 694 (Brooklyn Park) but commute from Uptown and my time when I get to fly is more precious then most as it takes me a bit to get there. Usually I'll spend a few hours on the days I get out.
I'd be curious to see your flying area, can you post some picks? I've got a Great Planes Extra 330 that I've been dinking with for a while and looking to install a smoke system (i have the parts, just haven't gotten to it). And if you've got room, while it might be a commute I'd be willing to zip down from time to time.

Well here is one from each end of my "runway" area and one from the field side. I know its not the most ideal but it works. It also hones your landing skills quite a bit

It looks like your hobbies are like mine, I notice a salt water coral in your photos, I currently have a 135 gallon reef and a 110 gallon reef that I need to get rid off (trade?
)
I am also a member of Tcrc, you are more then welcome to visit and get a couple of flights in as a guest, just come down and say hi, and take a look at the field. (www.tcrconline.com) there is a gate on the entrance, but I am sure there will be people there this weekend.

Thanks Jon,
I actually dorve over there earler today and met two people there mowing the grass. I would like to come out again to try and get a feel for how busy the place gets as i am looking for people to fly with and not just a facility to use. I used to have a reef tank, i took it down because i did not feel i was putting proper effort into it to properly keep the tank up. I currently do offsite tank cleanings for Ocean Devotion as a sidejob. If this weekend is nice i might have to make another trip out there.

Fish is another addictive hobby, I want to get rid of one of my tanks (so I have more money for planes
)
I am glad that you made it out there, usually I think there are 5 - 10 flyers on a weekend, the other weekend we had all nine starting benches used and a few people doubled up, but it was an open house too.
I look forward to seeing you there.
Jon
P.S. we also have monthly evening meetings in Bloomington.

Yeah, I'll agree w/you that your landing skills have to be quite honed to bring in something like the likes of your bird in that small area. I used to fly in Eagan and the [link=http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=eagan+MN&sll= 37.579413,-95.712891&sspn=52.473938,79.013672&ie=UTF8&ll=44.8 33565,-93.191121&spn=0.011656,0.01929&t=h&z=16&layer=c&cb ll=44.833535,-93.19016&panoid=MP0hmDFiv6N4rrDbAXEBXg&cbp=12,163. 54,,0,6.2]Blue Cross Blue Shield "Park"[/link] - it's a huge region next to their MN headquarters. Well, after a few flights of my Piper Cub I realized this wasn't worth it anymore - i needed space. For as much as it might be a pain in the arse to drive to a location to fly I recommend TCRC as they're a great bunch of people. When I joined my club at first it was a few solo days until a good weekend and then i met up with some great flying buddies and now i run into them all the time when I fly.
Eventually you meet a few people, enjoy each others company, and next thing you know ur meeting them up at the field for some fun or you happen to run into them as you have the same flying 'schedule' as they do! If'n the weathers good (and Curtis is nice - HINT HINT!!) I'll see if he can invite me as a guest and I'll make my way down to TCRC this weekend.

Welcome, Erik! I am also a TCRC member like Curtis and Jon. (Once we get Andrew to move further south we'll get him too!) Second everything they said, we'd love to have you fly with us some time. Not sure if anyone mentioned this, but you do need an AMA membership, like at any other club field.

LOL,
I wish I had some time to fly this weekend, but I think I will be devoting a little more time to the wife and son, so this one might not work, but I hope to be down there next weekend. I am also taking next week off, so i hope to get out once or twice during the week, so if you want to take an afternoon off and fly, i'd be up for that.(that goes for Erik, and/or Andrew) It's a quick jaunt from EP.
Erik, grab an AMA membership and let us know if you want to fly there sometime and we can meet you. I flew for a short time at MVRC in shakopee last year and learned at grassfields, I am glad I joined TCRC, great bunch of guys and a great field to fly. If it weren't for the cross-city trip to Grassfields, they would be a good option too.
Later,
Curtis

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but here is a video that i took during the open house. It was my first try with the new camera and I forgot a crucial part.

BTW, Scott, it's good to hear from you again. Haven't seen you in a while. I plan on being at the meeting on the 14th if you are there.

I did fly it twice. On the last flight it deadsticked. I still have not gotten the carb really dialed in, but haven't touched it since then. I expect it will work better once i can get some time working on it. I also think a new glow plug and some time running will help a bit.

Oh, that would be nice. I am watching Laurence at 10:30.
Bummer, was out to the field today on the motorcycle and saw a couple of guys flying, looked nice.

That would be fun, but he naps in the early afternoon and I am hoping to get started putting my Giles 202 together when he is asleep. We will have to get out and fly sometime though. Maybe toward the end of next week or something.
